Clinton surpasses $75 million in speech income after lucrative 2010 – CNN Political Ticker - CNN.com Blogs

Clinton is now cashing in on selling out the citizens of the US via a system laughingly called "honorariums". I fine this term extremely ironic since there is little honor is selling out ones country and citizens.
So long as this system exists, politicians are clearly for sale to the highest bidder and the country will continue to be broken up and sold off to big business like the LBO's of the 80's.

Uh they all do it. Its not a Dem or GOP thing. You dont much see Bush2 because few would pay him to show up. That is the cost of being an abject failure and being a member of the bottom quartile of presidential rankings. No he is not even in the bottom 5 (Pre and post civil war presidents get those honors) but he was a disaster.

capping a decade of paid speaking events that has earned him $75.6 million since leaving office in 2001,

Quote:
In 10 years as a private citizen, Clinton has delivered a total of 417 paid speeches and earned an average of $181,000 per event. Almost two-thirds of his total speech earnings, about $44.9 million, have come from 215 overseas events in 48 countries.

And let's see where that selling out is...is it in the speeches for aid to Haiti, and promoting health initiatives in 3rd world countries AND the U.S.? Promoting a cure for HIV/AIDS? Combating climate change? Creating sustainable development in Africa?

Is that where the selling out of America is?! Some people just have no clue.

And for those of us who have no clue, please inform us to just exactly who it is that paid that 75 million. Was it ordinary people pining to hear the wise words of the former President? or was it Corporations who benifited from policies of the government which was at the taxpayers expense now doing their payback ?

I believe it is you who do not have a clue.

How's he selling out the citizens of the US?
That's just silly.
Free market provides paying people what the market will bear.

This is perhaps the most preposterous thread of the week (and that's saying something).

Actually, Your Wrong!! Bush says he gets offers to speak, he just wants to bow out and let the next President, be in charge, without constant turmoil from the other side. Wish we could say the same for the "Man" that would like to be FOREVER be President.

The Libs need an idol, we all get it!!

Seriously if you don't know how the Clinton initiative works or actual comment/motivational speaking, then you should do some research. What/who are/is the most bookings through..."Power within". Here is where President Clinton makes most of his speaking money.

Power Within - Event Speakers (http://powerwithin.com/4105/speakers.asp#speaker-president-bill-clinton - broken link)

Now who doesn't have a clue?

Guess you missed the part in the article about George W. Bush getting $15 million for delivering 140 speeches in 2 1/2 years since leaving the White House. Give him as many years out of office and he'll be up there with Clinton in earnings from speeches.

I wish the OP would explain why he thinks a past president being on the speech making circuit is "selling out". They'll all done it after they've been out of office a few years. It's not like they can go to work at McDonald's afterward to earn a living.
