The original neocon was Irving Kristol, father of Bill. He was a liberal Democrat who studied economics and become a convert to free market ideas, hence 'neocon.' Beyond that the term became very muddled and useless.
If a word does not have a 'single accepted definition' it becomes a tool for those who seek to deceive by shifting meanings. OP, still waiting for your definition
I have to scratch my head everytime libertarians attempt to distinguish themselves from mainstream conservatives/neocons. Libertarians are not different. Libertarians always side with conservatives on 97% of issues. If you watch Reason TV on Youtube, most of the comments are from people who you would think are neocons. Same with the CATO Institute.
Aside from war mongering, face it. Libertarians are conservatives.
"Libertarians always side with conservatives on 97% of issues"
Ok, so then you should be able to name 30+ issues libertarians side with neo-cons on for every one I name that they oppose them on. So
Drugs, Social Security, increased government spending, the War on Iraq, war on Iran, foreign aid and deficiets. So you should be able to name over 200 issues that libertarians agree with neo-cons on. Good luck with that.

When did Irving Kristol convert to free market ideas? The neocons were never free market. They were just leftist imperialists who pretended to become "conservatives" without abandoning any leftist ideas.

Bingo.
And Irving Kristol was not, contrary to wutitiz's claim, a liberal Democrat--he was actually a self-proclaimed Trotskyite (or, if you will, a Marxist) before his "conversion" to a neoconservative worldview.

Libertarians are pro abortion, anti military and anti Israel. Not very conservative.
I'm not sure what to call myself... here are some of my views
-end the drug war, and decriminalize all drugs (good luck getting republicans to agree to this any time in the next 1000 years)
-more gun freedoms, maintain gun freedoms
-seal up mexican border, but allow legal citizenship to anyone who can speak english or pass a citizenship test.. deport illegals immediately (republicans say they support this but behind closed doors they love the cheap labor)
-support universal health care (a liberal/socialist viewpoint of course)
-lower drinking age to 18, in general maintain or expand individual liberties. Don't 'shelter' people from life, or the truth. Expand, progress, and change... always...
-get out troops out of the middle east, close overseas bases, and keep our military strong, but within our borders. Stop wasting money on 'stealth' aircraft and build more conventional aircraft at a lower cost. Keep a nice nuclear arsenal.. to keep nations like China from thinking they can expand their resource base... human nature being what it is...
-more regulation on the banking system... eliminate the federal reserve in favor of a no interest 'social credit' form of currency.. more regulation on the banking industry and use of leveraged instruments for financial gain.. basically eliminate the making of money from simply having money or speculating and have it so people have to make some sort of useful contribution to society, with the exception of health care... everyone gets covered. Dare I say, put banks in government hands and all bank profits go to the government and to the people... since banking is such a cash cow for the elite.
-simplify the tax code... a graduated tax with no writeoffs or loopholes of any sort. All income gets taxed at a fixed rate, period. Right now the tax code favors the very rich and very poor leaving the middle and upper middle class to pay the largest percentage burden.
Basically corporations and governments need regulation, individual liberties do not. This is where so many socialists go wrong. They want everything to be a nanny state, but they go after the individual liberties as well 'for the children' or whatever. I'm not exactly sure what you'd label my political leaning... social libertarian maybe? But we do need regulations to keep corporations from running amok, which is not what libertarians support....
"Neocons are a joke. I'd rather vote for a Democrat than a neo-con because at least the Democrats won't lie about what they're going to do."
Damn man, when you make a ridiculous statement like that give us some notice before hand. I almost choked to death when I read that Democrats don't lie. What rock have you been living under? Come out and see daylight occasionally.
Joke of the century.........Democrats don't lie. LMAO!!!!!!!!

Neocons enjoy wars they don't have to fight in.
Libertarians enjoy peace that they can participate in.
Principally Libertarians do not support Government use of force or fraud against individuals.
I'm much more extreme than that, I don't support anyone's use of force or fraud against me.
