In the grand tradition of White Star Line naming its ships with monikers that end in -ic - I propose a new ship be built in honor of this thread: R.M.S. Idiotic.

How do we know if it really was the "Titanic"? If the M and P are on the side of the ship?

One of the most controversial and complex theories was put forward by Robin Gardiner in his book, Titanic: The Ship That Never Sank? In it, Gardiner draws on several events and coincidences that occurred in the months, days, and hours leading up to the sinking of the Titanic, and concludes that the ship that sank was in fact Titanic's sister ship Olympic, disguised as Titanic, as an insurance scam.

But the real question is......Could anyone account for Obama's whereabouts during this entire incident?

And if so, I'm going to need to see the long form version!

Today is the 100th anniversary of the Titanic's departure on its maiden voyage. Interestingly, a cruie ship left Southampton on Sunday bound for New York - it is the Titanic Memorial Cruise on the Balmoral. They will stop above the Titanic grave - but do not intend to re-enact the iceberg bit.

Naw, it was schools of tuna that pushed the iceberg there - seems they were upset at dolphins getting all the attention....

The most interesting story out of the Titanic is that of Violet Jessop.

Violet Jessop - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Violet Constance Jessop (October 2, 1887 – May 5, 1971) was an ocean liner stewardess and nurse who achieved fame by surviving the disastrous sinkings of sister ships RMS Titanic and HMHS Britannic in 1912 and 1916 respectively. In addition, she had been on board Titanic and Britannic′s other sister ship, RMS Olympic, when it collided with the protected cruiser HMS Hawke in 1911."

they Titanic is just a good story of how at the peak of the Industrial age with the largest ship ever built at the time and having the water tight compartments and massive steel hull that was made to take the worse possible damage thought of by which was 4 flooded compartments and they were going 22 knots and turned that the iceburg had ripped through 6 and it was doomed to sink..

If they had hit it head on the ship would of been able to stay afloat... Since only the lower few forward compartments would of been damaged and it would of been able to limp to New York or made it to daylight and had a rescue ship sent to tow it in.

Also the people in the massive boiler rooms that gave their lives to prevent the red hot boilers from blowing up from the ice cold North Atlantic water..They stayed to get the burining the coal out and shut the vents and drafts and had got the the pressure down and temps down to give people more time to get off the ship.

heck the Costa Cordia had 100 years worth of modren advacements and yet human error caused it to sink.

No - Titanic was caused by human error - Costa Concordia was caused by hubris.

When i first heard that it WASNT TITANIC that sunk but Olympic for insurance claims started looking into it and i found some interesting pages, one of them being

http://midnight-oil.hubpages.com/hub...Insurance-Scam

They said TITANIC couldnt be sunk,it might have been an insurance scam seeing as it was the ships LAST VOYAGE.... On another site someone said people found the ship and went down to it AND VERIFYED IT WAS OLYMPIC!!! (Very sad those ppl had too UNWILLINGLY be a part of this scam IF THATS WHAT IT WAS)
