Is it always keeping more of your own money, or is it sometimes taking some of someone else's money?

Consider a single 20% tax rate with one tax break. Half the taxpayers get the tax break and pay 10%. The tax rate COULD be 15% without any tax break (revenue neutral).

Are the people paying 10% keeping more of what they earn, or is 5% being redistributed from other taxpayers into their own pocket?

Being one of the working poor means politicians are too busy helping other taxpayers keep more of what their own money to help YOU keep more of YOUR money.

But you did clarify why the working poor often vote Democrat.

When I lived in Michigan, I did exactly that, because the state Democrats didn't want to soak ME with taxes, while Michigan Republicans never met a regressive tax they didn't like.

Then in 1994 I started voting Libertarian after Democrats sold out the bottom third of the state, allowing Republicans to soak me with higher taxes in order to give homeowners a tax cut they were bragging about for a long time.

At least now I live in a place where Republicans hate regressive taxes just as much as they hate progressive taxes. All politics is indeed local.

The "poor" in this country, that are on the take, have all of the above without paying any income tax.

To assume that all of the poor in this country are living high on the hog is a little presumptuous. What poor communities are you familiar with in this country? What inner city poverty stricken areas are you familiar with? Do you understand many of the social issues that plague those communities? Do you also understand that we as a society are also responsible for the failure of many of these communities?

If you'd like my definition of whether you were poor or not, income was and your expenses. That's the only way I can make a determination. At times when I've been dead broke though, there was no question as to "what I was" at the time.
