If 50% white and 50% hispanic equals a white person, then why does obamas 50% white and 50% black does not equal being a white as well?

seems kind of racist to me sticking someone into a race that they might or might not identify with.

You might want to look up the "one drop" law in America.
American Indians and whites are American Indian until the ratio goes less than 1/4 American Indian.
I thought hispanic could be many different races of people just as American citizens can.

I'm 1/16th Creek. Here's a list of what tribes allows what percentage. It goes to 1/16th for some.
