Yes from tax coffers promoting an ideology that almost caused the US to go to nuclear war over which would've caused armaggedon.
Students have a right to take the classes that they want, especially as they are paying for those classes. Universities have the right to offer the classes they think are worthwhile. If students don't fine an elective worthwhile, they won't enroll, and the class will be cancelled. Pretty simply

You don't think that the misapplications of Marxism in various societies are covered in history classes and whatnot?

I love when people talk about all those radicals in universities. The 1960s are long gone from American campuses, including most of the radical faculty.

Just admit that you don't understand what it means to use a theory as a frame of analysis. It's painfully clear that you and others don't get.
I don't think one needs to be Marxist to find this kind of a course interesting or important. In fact, I would think a staunch anti-Marxist would want to take this in order to understand how to avoid Marxism at all costs.
Think of it this way, we do not want our kids to be Nazis, but we still think teaching them about WWII is important. Why is this any different?

Problem is, these self-proclaimed Socialist professors are doing more than "teaching about" it. The course syllabus indicates the kids are to go out into the community and apply what they have learned with groups such as Occupy. Big difference.
Well, when you consider Portland's severe "granola" factor and its knee-jerk reaction to have a disdain for anything minimally traditional, it's no surprise at all.

"2. Students will apply a Marxist analysis to current events
3. Students will apply Marxist theory to local political and community organizing."
One applies a theory by using the theory to frame an analysis of an on-going situation. This simply means that you use the language from the theory to explain what is happening. One can use any theory to do such a thing.
"Portland State University is offering a number of controversial courses this semester, the likes of which include “Revolutionary Marxism: Theory and Practice,“ and ”Art Within Activism”..."
"The course’s instructors, Grant Booth and Wael Elasady, are both admitted socialists. They define the course’s goals as:
1. Students will learn the fundamentals of Marxist theory
2. Students will apply a Marxist analysis to current events
3. Students will apply Marxist theory to local political and community organizing
Moreover, students will seemingly be required to forge a “community connection” with a local community/political organization from a specified list. Some of the “approved” organizations include: Occupy PSU, Students United for Palestinian Equal Rights, Occupy Portland, Portland Boycott-Divestment-Sanctions Coalition (BDS), Jobs with Justice, and the May Day Coalition."
You do not live in Oregon, your tax dollars are not paying for this.
Also, why should classes only talk about Capitalism? You are not required to take the class so it is not a big deal.

It's really not about that. For those who know both that institution and the city, it's about the (roll the eyes) "knee-jerk" reactionary liberals.
