Thats not the issue there are people who do have it; for example president obama & romney they both have it. Without a college degree I most likely will not land a solid job. Therefore I probably won't be able to buy a car, house, tv from bestbuy all those things that help stimulate the economy.
When has it become in the nation that we do not want to see our children succeed? Do the ceo's and managers of companies realize that one day they will be dead, and who is going to take there positions?
United States needs to wake up and realize that china & japan are whooping our butts because they "GET IT" they are investing in their children.
So basically what you are saying is stop going to school, work at walmart for a year (1 less year of me obtaining valuable experience in my field) with the whole $7.50 they are willing to pay
$7.50*40=300*4months=1200*12months=14400-taxes= down to around 11K-5ktution = 6k yeah sure I could live off 6k a year. That a whole 500$ a month
& thats if Walmart even allows employee's to work 40/hr weeks which i doubt.

Just let federal govt control student loans and get these privatize bankers out of it! Because they're filled with greed! tax my loans 6% so they receive that extra $$ to send their children to the best schools. The rich get richer and us people who don't come from money don't stand a chance.
I didn't want to do this, but this post causes me to ask you what your major is in since you are so sure you will get a job in that field when so many students aren't finding jobs today. What if you don't get a job and the people like the haters of Walmart here on the forum get their way and destroy that business. Without anything to fall back on maybe you better give some thought to it.
Some of the members of this forum state they have degrees that just aren't getting them jobs and I do wonder about your major.
Sounds like you are doing pretty dang well. Why did you not take a little personal responsibility and make arrangements for your future as you've gone through school.
My father worked a day job and went to night school for about 12 years to get his degree and no one gave him a loan or supported his family. Are you so weak that you can't do the same ?

I had my MS and three years of service in the US Army by the end of 1958 and never got any money till I got one year of GI Bill for the MS. I worked part time, but back then that worked so much better. We old people sometimes have problems seeing what these youngers have to go through but this sure is the Gimme Generation, too.
I needed about 10k a year of Stafford loans to pay for college, now that I’m graduating this spring my school requires my department to take a internship course which is 12 credits. Since I already exploited my 4years (8 semesters) of Pell grants, I need to loan my total tuition for my internship, which is 5k. I attend a small state university that isn’t expensive as most big universities (about 16k yearly) so I’m not in as much debt as some people who went to the Penn States & University of Pittsburgh. So I have to take a 5k Stafford loan for my internship FML!!!
But anyways; sorry republicans I don't have an extra 5k in cash laying around maybe I should drop out and work at Wal-Mart! GOP you suck!

Second, this isn't a Dem/Repub thing.
Going back to the beginning of Student Loan Marketing Association in 1972 (SALLIE MAE) and continued under both parties;
it is both the accumulated interest, and the lack of accountability and
policing of banks, Department of Education and Department of Health
and Human Services, that IS the student loan multi billion dollar industry
of today, with ALL of it's abuses of the past.
The DOE IS responsible for your tuition hikes, simply by their engagement
with banks and GSE's, using tax dollars, and guaranteeing loans of default.
There has been no one policing the student loan industry for decades.
Students and taxpayers alike, have been ripped off by paid off legislators, corrupt banks, schools of higher learning since 1972.
Probably one of the biggest scams on the American people.
Certainly bigger than that of a Bernie Madoff scam.
It's downright criminal.
Neither party (that includes Obama)
has done anything to prevent individual
servitude via student loans, to the federal government.
In fact, they have encouraged it.
Fortunately i landed a very valuable internship in my field that i start next week, without that college degree I wouldn't not have even landed the interview. I don't have hate for people who are successful i have hate for people who are not willing to invest in my peers and I! The young people who will be entering the workforce within the next few years! The people who will have your job once you die.
And will still be voting straight ticket Democrat as real loyal dependents on the government and the party that worked so hard for them in an election year. How many millions of you are there who have been bought off for November already?

That is not good; that means more stress, which leads to health problems which lead to higher health care cost (which is a whole different story) get your head from up you're A-- and come to the conclusion that YOU yes you SHOULD be willing to invest in the youth of today! because ummm we are the future...

I guess his father just wasn't one of those future people in his day, was he. When people had to do what that man did, back then, they made choices and got degrees or they didn't go for them and did less "productive" work. At least they made the choice.
Does it even matter? The student loan bubble is about to burst anyway and everybody will get a pass and the taxpayers will bail out the banks again. Just sit tight and watch.
But they will actually be bailing out the students that didn't choose to work and borrowed money for things like life style. Obama has said he would do that, even though Congress is supposed to do things like spend money.
The lack of opportunity in this Obama economy is the issue because students don't start to pay off loans until they stop taking classes.

You are correct, but wouldn't you prefer a low interest rate to a high one. If you take Obama out of the equation, there has always (well maybe not always, but in the last 10 -15 years) been and will always be a lack of opportunity in this country. Of course it depends on what type of opportunities one is seeking.

I have a internship with a a four diamond property, and without affordable student loans someone in my financial situation can forget it... Maybe i should have just became a machinist like the guy below says....
