Not so fast, are you not familiar with the concept of the 'meme.' A Bogie, Dean Martin, or Roger Moore throws back a drink and a whole generation is inspired to booze it up.
Pretty much the foundation of the $100 billion plus US advertising industry. It's real. Voila, second hand drinking. Why not ban this scourage before we all die?
I meant second-hand drinking as in, if you were sitting next to me with a glass of Vodka, your drinking it would have no direct impact on my health.
That's unlike cigarette smoke, where the toxins can blow right in my face, up my nostrils into my body.
Why don't we ban food in restaurants - after all - people are dying from the effects of obesity - clearly the food that is served in restaurants is to blame and should be banned to save lives.
Yeah, lets ban all drinking and while we're at it ban all driving (because that causes thousands of deaths), ban all sports (because they cause mass riots resulting in deaths)....
In fact lets ban every American citizen from coming in contact with any other American citizen (that will take care of all drug deaths, all "he/she" was killed because they dissed someone, all fights that ended in deaths, all deaths caused by a lovers quarrel etc....)
The American nanny federal/state/city governments are bad enough with their bans on things, we don't need any more....

In this case you would have knowingly entered a bar that allows smoking, that's a choice you have made. In the case of drinking the consequences of the drunk driver are out of the control of anyone, you're not given a choice.

ya when some obnoxious drunk slaps you in the face with glock, that has no effect on your health??
you ever been in a bar in a bar room brawl??? if you have then you know drunks risk other peoples lives all the time everyday 24/7..
i've been in a bar, and an all out fight started and a lot of innocent people got hurt that had nothing to do with the perpetrators that started the fight..

Sounds like you need to visit bars that don't have customers who get into fights when they drink.

The problem is all bars and restaurants, before the bans were instituted, allowed smoking.
Non-smokers have the right to visit public establishments and not inhale over people's smoke.
It's the same reason minimum wage and labor laws were instituted. In theory, one could have simply moved to a company that paid better wages. Unfortunately all companies equally paid slave wages for unreasonable working hours.
Drunk driving and bar fights are indirect consequences of drinking. It's not the alcohol itself that has harmed the other person second-hand, but the person with the alcohol in their system.
There are other ways to enforce those incidents besides drinking bans. For example, the bar owners can ban people who instigate bar fights (I'm sure majority of bar patrons don't). Local police departments can beef up their patrol late at night. They can also institue very steep penalties (steeper than what we have now) for people who commit these actions.
