CA has passed laws for cell phone usage. My cousin mom was the start of this she campaigned and at least got it to where more people use "Bluetooth" while driving and teens aren't allowed to talk or text if they're just starting to drive.
Mine do and they have to look out for the idiots that do it anyway.

I wouldn't be so harsh about it. A teenager's brain isn't fully developed yet. In fact, it's the part of our brains that handle rational thought which doesn't fully develop until we're in our mid-20s.

I kind of wonder how sheltered these kids are. Like me as a teen I step in the car and I keep my phone in the cup holder, I have the self control to leave it there I never understood why ppl need to answer a message a millisecond after its received.
Now that my rant is over the part about sheltered kids ( I'm sure sheltered is a HORRIBLE word for what I'm trying to say)- I don't understand why kids who are exposed to everything on the news don't get it. On top of that the video I watched during my 5 hour couse scared the hell out of me- it was on texting and driving

Very sad indeed. The irony is that people know the dangers of driving, and texting, driving and talking on their cell. But it does not stop any of them from those very dangers.
I see people constantly talking on their cells while driving, and you can also tell when they text. They do not pay attention to the road. I see it all the time, and somtime i will lay on the horn.

One time this young gal was texting while driving, never knowing she was in the lane my husband and i were driving. Sad thing is we do have fast reflexes, someone who doesn't would have been hit.
As for the gal, she never even knew. Went right on texting. We passed her, laid on the horn big time, and said some nice words to her.
There is nothing that important that it cannot wait, if it depends on your life. I was so pissed, i almost wanted to call on her.

Unless your ejected from the vehicle and splatter into somebody. Better make us all wear big puffy outfits in case somebody who doesn't wear their seatbelt gets ejected at us while we are walking down the road so they bounce off of us. It's for our own good after all.

But you have to wonder just how stupid someone has to be, to text while driving in the first place. What's next? "Man killed while watching portable television while driving"???

BTW, a note to the grieving parents: I certainly feel for your grief. But Idaho already has laws against distracted driving, which your daughter ignored. What makes you think making more laws on the same thing, will make any difference to the next stupid kid with a cell phone?

It's a horrible time to lecture on this. But the fact remains, if you trust government to take care of your kids (by making laws), some of them are going to wind up dead. GOVERNMENT CAN'T DO IT.

After seeing my son talking on his cell phone while driving, I put a low-power cell phone jammer in the seat foam of his car. He's still alive. And it's only a little illegal.

Tragic Irony: Teen Dies While Texting The Dangers Of Texting And Driving
Parents make plea to outlaw texting and driving in Idaho

Taylor Sauer, a college student driving home on a lonely road, was texting with a friend via Facebook when her car crashed into a tanker truck at 80 miles per hour, killing her instantly. The tragic irony of the situation was revealed in her phone records shortly after: At the time of the accident, she had been texting about the dangers of texting and driving.

Her last message, sent moments before the crash on Jan. 14, said, "I can't discuss this now. Driving and facebooking is not safe! Haha."

According to the phone records, Sauer, 18, was posting on Facebook about every 90 seconds.

"I think she was probably (texting) to stay awake, she was probably tired," Taylor's father, Clay Sauer, told Ann Curry on The TODAY Show. "But that's not a reason to do it, and the kids think they're invincible. To them, (texting) is not distracting, they're so proficient at texting, that they don't feel it's distracted driving."

Taylor's parents have since become activists in their home state of Idaho, trying to get the government to pass laws against texting while driving.
Her father sounds like a real rocket scientist with his comments about texting to stay awake.

Didn't they teach their daugther to turn up the radio loud, or roll down the window, etc? Or if she is that tired to get off the road?

There is an ad on TV right for some car company. You see the father talking to his daughter, he is standing outside the car looking in and she is in the driver's seat.

He is discussing road safety and the girl looks to be about 7yrs old, then in the last shot she see as she really looks, a young woman around 18yrs old.

That's how parents need to discuss road safety with their kids, seeing them as children.

It's awful that they lost their child, but it sounds like road safety wasn't discussed in their home, between the texting and driving 80mph.
