You're assuming that employers will continue to offer health insurance. In fact many have already figured out that it will be more cost-effective to drop health coverage for their employees and pay a penalty for doing so. So the promise that Obama made that if you like your insurance you'll be able to keep it under Obama care is an empty promise. You'll be able to keep it only if your employer continues to offer it. When this shoe drops be prapared for the howls of anger and disbelief. And that's only the beginning of the unintended consequences of this law.
So, what the struggling housewife should do, is clear: She should drop all health insurance. And simply pay the lower amount, the "tax" for not signing up.
Actually since the penalties will be taken from your tax refund just adjust your withholding so there is nothing to take. No refund, no money to collect for the fine.
Speaking at the National Press Club on Monday, Shulman downplayed the IRS’s role in enforcing the recent overhaul of the health insurance industry by claiming the agency would not aggressively target individuals who don’t purchase coverage. He noted that the health-care bill expressly forbids the agency from freezing bank accounts, seizing assets or pursuing criminal charges, but when pressed said the IRS would most likely use tax refund offsets to penalize those that don’t comply with the mandate. The IRS uses refund offsets to collect from individuals that owe the federal government a delinquent debt.
There is no teeth to this law. If this law is going to remain and many people begin to take that route they going to have to give it some teeth as in real fines and even jail time. How many Democrats are going to support that when it starts to fail?
It will work, for a while. Eventually insurance companies will break under the costs and more and more people will simply have to rely on the government for insurance and health care.
Which is the plan anyway.
Speaking of cost Pelosi and company sold the idea that adding 30 million people to health insurance rolls would somehow lower costs for everyone. At bottom, Obama care is just a massive expansion of Medicaid and the cost will be passed on to the federal government (which is already flirting with insolvency) and the states, many of which are struggling to pay for pension and health care costs of government worker retirees--the same burdens that bankrupted GM and Chrysler. Get ready for the blizzard of tax increases both at the state and federal level that will be enacted to pay for this massive new entitlement.
As we have reduced wages and transferred profits to the top few percent a single income cannot support a "standard" household.
IMHO - as almost everyone requires health care at some time in their lives the entire system should be owned and operated by a government agency and paid for with a high deductable income tax on all income from all sources. There is no need for private profit motives to distort and reduce the quality of the care.

Employees have been dropping health care for years now and even workers with employer based health care are paying big premiums each month from their salaries........... Once Obama seperayes health and employment with the UHC that he will move to create......... THEN and only THEN will health NOT affect our workplace or our employers.

Maybe I don't know every loophole for providing insurance, but are you saying that pre-Obamacare, companies that were providing insurance when there was no penalty, are going to stop providing healthcare b/c there is a penalty?
The biggest health issues we've had in the last several years have been accidents and emergencies. Not the sort of thing you can go buy instant coverage for. Also, watch for something called a continuous coverage clause.
