The Grand Imam (I guess he's like the Pope of the Sunnis ??) asked the UN to criminalize any attacks on the Muslem religion. He wants an international resolution that will ban any attack on a Moslem symbol and make it a criminal offense.
The UN must do this to preserve "world peace".

Egypt's top Muslim cleric on Saturday called for an international ban on all forms of attacks against Islam, after a provocative film sparked violent protests in the Middle East and North Africa.
..
The resolution should "criminalise attacks on Islamic symbols and on those of other religions, after the violence against those who provoked challenges to world peace and international security," said Tayyeb.
The imam said it was the UN's responsibility to "protect world peace from any threat or aggression", so that "these dangerous events cannot recur".

But if Islam is a religion of peace, why would there be fighting and killing over a perceived insult to their religion? If their faith is so strong, why fight over such an insult? Answer-it's not a religion of peace. It'll be a religion of peace only when everyone in the world is muslim.

Uh; how about protecting the Christians in Muslim countries, Iman?

Real bad road to head down on cause IF carried all they way to the end; ALL people would in danger if getting punished. I say that cause some religions like the pagan ones see trees and creeks the same way as Muslims see their Koran and so on. Cut down a sacred tree in what is now Ireland 2000 years ago, I'd wouldn't wanna be around to see the logger killed.

Could you imagine if the UN says OK and countries go along with this ?
A crime to criticize Islam ? Isn't that sharia law being mandated on all of us ?

Not to worry, the UN has yet to show any signs of effectiveness in matters of world peace.

The Constitution is the highest law in the land. The UN could never trump our First Amendment rights.

Pretty much. You say anything bad about Islam the world court will break your door down and you will be sent to Egypt to have your head removed.

Haha, a resolution to "ban hurtful acts against Islam."?

What a joke. Even if such a resolution was passed, the Charter of the UN guarantees sovereignty of each Member State. Even then, resolutions are mainly non-binding when dealing with political issues. All he is doing is blowing steam. Like I said before, what a joke.

The United States is based on freedom of speech, no such law will ever become present here.
