Technically, of course, you are right. Although it may be very difficult to prove to a jury; depends upon the circumstances whether or not one would be acquitted.

, and yes, Zimmerman chasing after and shooting Martin was a tragedy. And yes, republicans acted like idiots when they raged against Sandra Fluke. All of the above we're perfectly reasonable for the president to respond to, and I'm glad that we have one that responds reasonably to obvious foolishness.
Since when should Gates receive special treatment, there was a report of a possible burglary and the police answered the call, Gates gave them a hard time and refused to show any ID, so police acted properly not knowing who he was, they arrested him. Gates was a fool and could have avoided arrest by showing ID, instead he opted to give the police a hard time.

Maybe no one ASKED him about Caylee.
As usual, the anointed one can do no wrong.

Back in the real world, Gates showed ID, which he was technically not required to do, as Massachusetts residents are not required to have ID in the first place, and the cop proceeded to trespass on his property anyway. In addition, the state Supreme Court has repeatedly thrown out this sort of case, ruling it unconstitutional. So yes, the cop did "act stupidly", even ifObama wasn't aware of why at the moment he uttered that phrase.

Yes, but when did it *begin*? Was it when he saw Martin walking down the street? When Martin had "something" in his hand? When Martin ran away from him? Is there any reason to state that Zimmerman was a rational person that night, that he faced any legitimate fear for his life?

I think the Martin family will win a civil suit, I see no conviction on any criminal charge. There is no doubt that Z-man provoked Martin. It still seems probable to me that Martin initiated the physical confrontation, though it is possible Z-man initiated it. I think the case comes down to the final 30-60 seconds of Martin's life and I don't think there is evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt what exactly happened in that time frame.
