The security guard was reckless and irresponsible. He wasn't working as a cop. He was working a paul blart style job. He shouldn't have attempted to barricade a car with his car to begin with... over a purse full of cheap Chinese goods. Write up a report and give it to mister manager.
Instead, someone is dead, some kid is traumatized/motherless and his employer will (more likely than not) be sued.
He was IN UNIFORM.....and identified himself as such....
Would you people please read the article before looking so damn ignorant....
He was not a cop THEN. He was not getting paid by the city of Houston. He was getting paid by Walmart.
Besides, anyone can say they are a cop...
He was on duty.. He wasn't on the city payroll at the time, but a officer of the law is considered to be on duty 24 hours a day every day.. It doesn't matter that he was moonlighting.. It's irrelevent....

The security guard was a cop. He's always working as a cop. That's why law enforcement is a PROFESSION.
And he didn't try to barricade a car with his car.
He pursued three shoplifters who had assaulted him with their purses into a parking lot, and he opened their car door to prevent them from driving off. The driver put the car into reverse to run him down. He reacted to the threat by firing his weapon.
People like you, are why America is the way it is today....lets rehab them....no, wait that was tried, guess what...did not work....so played the game and lost..
How bad is the shoplifting that they have to hire off duty Cops to reduce losses? It's hard to feel sorry for a repeat, low life, parasitic thief.
Well she wasn't shot for looking threatening and she wasn't shot for shoplifting either.
If the police stopped you and you tried to get away and almost run them over, what would you expect ?
That they let you go and maybe give you a phone call later on saying "Hey, come on down. We need to talk to you because you drove away and almost ran down one of our officers. Would 10am be good for you ?"
The point is, he should not have put himself in that situation.
I'm sure she wasn't waving him over to come and stand in the open car door so she could run him over.
Maybe it didn't but it was in reverse and was moving... It was a valid attempt.
