We the undersigned Citizens of the United States do hereby petition the Federal Government of the United States to close all Border Patrol checkpoints which are posted on public roads and which impede the rights of Citizens to travel free of encumbrance.
These checkpoints constitute illegal searches on citizens in direct violation of the 4th Amendment of the Constitution.
In addition the checkpoints violate the freedom of citizens to travel free of molestation as is guaranteed under the Privileges and Immunities clause of the Constitution.
The Border Patrol Officers who man these checkpoints do routinely violate the rights of Citizens by using intimidation to attempt to force Citizens to submit to questioning which is in direct violation of their 5th Amendment rights.
Refusal to answer questions posed by Officers is viewed by officers as cause for illegal vehicle searches against the will and in direct violation of the 4th Amendment Rights of Citizens.
These checkpoints constitute a clear usurpation of power never intended when an agency to patrol the borders of the United States was instituted.
We the undersigned do hereby therefore file our grievance with the Federal Government of the United States and do petition the Government to close all Border Patrol Checkpoints not located directly on the border of the United States and to cease and desist in the violation of the rights of Citizens to travel freely and to recognize and respect Citizens’ rights to refuse to be illegally interrogated by Federal Officers without probable cause.

So, you don't mind the undocumented immigrants just driving over here?

The checkpoints are just a joke to illegals, when the agent asks them if they are US citizens they just say si or yes. Many illegals use buses to travel to their destinations and the agents come on the bus, ask those who are not citizens to hold up their documents. Whoever wants can show their documents, if you don't they just ask you if you're a citizen and you simply say yes or si, they can't make citizens prove anything, illegals have long caught on to that.

This was all part of Clinton's NAFTA, the US gave up 80 miles along the border to some international zone and foreigners are encouraged to come to shop, visit, use our schools and hospitals, and whatever else. The border checkpoints are along this international zone but don't do much to stop anyone from illegally heading north.

Questions to the OP:
1) Why did US start those checkpoints?
2) It requires more resources and more efforts by the border patrol. Does it mean the Feds did it only to provide more jobs?

I live only a few miles from a checkpoint, and although it's bothersome, it's not burdensome. The BP does good work around here. I appreciate the checkpoints.

The checkpoints are used to do drug searches under the guise of an immigration stop.
The Supreme Court ruled it was illegal to stop vehicles going down the road without probable cause to do drug searches, so the government uses the ruse of an immigration stop to justify the stops.

The traffic backs up for miles as the Border Patrol Agents act like Nazi storm troopers asking personal questions and interrogating Citizens.

If you dare to tell them you have no legal obligation to answer their questions, they surround your vehicle with several agents pointing guns and running drug dogs up and down the length of your vehicle or trying to intimidate you to going to secondary inspection.

The entire program is a joke. The immigration problem ended when the economy crashed in 2008, but the numbers of Border Patrol have increased exponentially. They literally have nothing else to do but to hassle Citizens.

It is just another example of the growing police state.

You appreciate having the Constitution ignored and dishonered by government?

I've never been asked anything more than my citizenship.

And I pass those things almost daily.

Hey man...I'm sympathetic to your position.

For example, when they busted Willie Nelson at the Sierra Blanca checkpoint, that REALLY p*ssed me off.

But strictly speaking for myself, I think they do good work at the checkpoints. They catch an awful lot of illegals.
