How are they allowed? What is that suppose to mean. Are you asking how is it possible that some tasks exist that are not worth a living salary?

Also, what is your opinion of unemployed people with a family looking for any job they could find, including the minimum wage jobs?

Well, if you are talking about individual tasks, there are probably many that wouldn't bring much value to anyone, even if done double full time.

If you are talking about hired work that a business needs, chances are it brings significant profit to a business owner if done. Chances are it deserves a a wage one requires to live, even if conditions are shoddy.

The work brings profit to a business only if their profits are more than they have to pay for the work, meaning if their prices are set high enough. So is the question why are prices allowed to be so low?

Prices of goods are not the only things responsible for profit. There are also expenses of running the business, as well as demand and supply for the goods.

It's all a very complex chain.

However it's probably best to keep people employed and offer them a livable wage for their work.
At the very least, that's supposed to mean a roof over peoples heads, food to keep them healthy, and transportation to and from work, with a bit of income left for other things.

I think the minimum wage should support at least a single person. Not a family, a single person.

If that doesn't get done the people rebel and cause economic damage rather than prosperity.

If a company cannot pay 16 per hour....make them bring their books in to show where they have the right to amass profit "directly from the tax payers pocket without asking"

Theft is the root of all social and economic degradation. A person who gives their working time, loyal dedication, plans... in the best energy hours of the day...."has a right to the best shelter and nutrition reasonably possible" at the direct consideration of the one who gains...the employer, not the general public. The general public is NOT the enterprise that appreciates company profits , period.

This whole thing with min is a hoax. If a company is requiring start up considerations or they are slower operations or a restaurant which tips are significant ok...bring the books in...this thing needs to be properly regulated. Why...because its a grab and go greedy culture with no morals other then..gimmee, gimmeee, gimmeee...the system or any system assumes or requires some moral character ....or...IT WILL NOT WORK

I'm firm on paragraph two above, and propose that no one can dismantle the reason enclosed. Without success, this position stands.

Now, if wages are so low at places like Macdonald's and WallMart that workers there need food stamps, then isn't this one big problem?

why should the taxpayer foot the wage bill?
why should the companies be allowed to pay so low?
what is the purpose of this system?

how about just a decent wage but no food stamps, make coming off welfare pay, surely this is the right solution?
Those are not jobs that were meant for a single parent to raise a family on, it's just that simple. But the era of Obama has beat down a nation so much, and ruined the economy, that it's become common place with people resorting to trying to raise their families on fast food jobs like these.

Fast food jobs have traditionally been entry level, no skill jobs for teenagers to cut their teeth on.

Back when Obama was elected a Big Mac combo meal was around $3, now its up around $6. Prices have soared due to inflation, but our government does not include the cost of things like food when factoring in inflation.

Yup, I hear this a lot. Perhaps less effort should be spent demanding things and more spent earning them.

Dude, this is the era of Obama, the era of gimme, no one needs to earn anything anymore, we have a right to sit on our couch and demand everything be given to us now. /satire

If that person has a right to the best, than who gets the worst? Naturally whatever the people on the bottom have, becomes the worst, as there is no one below them for something worse to exist. Luckily for them, the worst is pretty damn good in this country.
