No one expects you to be a big tipper when you get poor service. That's a different topic altogether. I still leave something even after poor service, but definitely not my normal 20%. No way.
But I've got no issue with no tip being left at all. However, being the person that I am, I couldn't leave a note. I'd have to tell the person directly that I'm not gonna leave a tip and explain why. That's seems to be the right thing to do.
Well if they are doing a crappy job and providing crappy service I doubt they care what you say anyway. If you were to say anything it should be to the manager because that person is hurting their business. Of course the manager might not care either. Plenty of other places for grub.
Well, I am glad the person the topic of this post had enough discretionary income to go out and get his little cards printed up.
It reminds me (as I have noted in another thread) of the gentleman in east Texas who, in 2008, purchased a business that sells bottled water (you pull up and fill up your containers, etc). This individual has strong political feelings and was upset at the election of Mr. Obama. Henceforth, he set up one of those big advertising signs on wheels (wherein you may change your message each day) and began to create rather libelous statements about Mr. Obama, with the 'birther' comments he occasionally made being rather tame in comparison.
To his astonishment, his business quickly went downhill, and he has been trying to sell the business for two years, goodwill included! He still has his sign out and blames President Obama for his business failure, which, strange to say, has not resulted in an uptick of business.
He said he didn't leave a bigger tip because he no longer has enough discretionary income to eat out.
But he did find a way to spend $37 on lunch for two at a fancy oops pizza place. But couldn't afford $8 for a 20% tip?
What a loser. If you can't "afford" a proper tip go to McDonalds.
I am on my phone, please forgive the typos.
20% of $37 would have been $7.40, you must round up like I do sometimes when service is good, etc.. I'm not sure what his thinking was with the $3 figure though, that's not even 10% and is pretty jerkish. However, I'm thinking of going back to 15% myself, which would have been $5.55 and yeah I'd probably round it up to $6. I dunno, the 15% is something I've been considering for a while and it will probably depend on where I am and how much service is required.
If you are going to make a waiter or waitress mad, make sure you don't go in that establishment again. They have ways of getting even.
Always save the nasty comments and bad behavior for after you have eaten. Start off making demands and being nasty your food gets "special" handling.
Common sense dictates don't mess with someone who has an advantage - especially when it comes to them handling your food!!!!
