Bill Cosby is an Uncle Tom. Just ask any black person on this forum. They'll surely tell you that he's obviously lost and doesn't know how to get back to the plantation. Anything to keep from admitting that he's right.

Well, not quite.

Black people who were brought here in chains hundreds of years ago, didn't speak English at all, of course. They spoke whatever language their village or tribe spoke. But once they got here, many of them saw the need to speak the language of the white people around them, if for no more reason that to be able to communicate with their "owners" who were treating them like property.

But the only source of English most of them had, were those "owners" themselves. And while a few of those "owners" were cultured and learned, many were not, and in fact were backwoods "white trash" whose grammar left a lot to be desired. And THAT was because their parents had been equally backwards and unlearned, and the parents before those, etc., back into the days where the "owners" ancestors came here from England, Scotland etc. People (and here I refer to white people) living in those parts of Enlgand, Scotland etc. today, speak the same way, even today. Complete with phrases like "Why you is" or "what he do", etc. And not because they think it's cool, but because that's the way their families have always spoken, for century upon century.

Those black slaves didn't speak with miserable grammar because they did a poor job of learning it from others. They spoke with miserable grammar because they had done an EXCELLENT job of learning it - and the people they had learned it from (white-trash slaveowners) used miserable grammar and spoke poorly themselves.

The ironic part, is that these modern-day blacks who deliberately regress into the "Ebonics" style of speech, aren't speaking the "English of our oppressed, enslaved ancestors". They are speaking the English of the white-trash slaveowners!

Can you imagine the looks on the faces of the few blacks who actually learn the real origin of this "Black English" they are so proud of aping?

But few learn that, because they are convinced that anyone who points out this truth, is automatically eeeevil and is lying. So they protect their ignorance under a shield of further ignorance.

Thank you. *Applause* *Applause*

It was the scotch/irish who were called "highlanders" and even in the old country the "respectable" whites wanted nothing to do with them just like they don't TODAY.

Exactly.

I knew libs, especially libs of color, would try to debunk it, but it's relevant, regardless or who said it or when.

These fatherless Ghetto kids look up to these Ghetto male celebrities a lot unfortunately.
I don't think that he was talking about just blacks, so ease up with the finger pointing. Have you ever heard of the word yunz and yentz? If you live in Pittsburgh you have and guess what? You will rarely hear it coming from a black persons mouth.

As far as what the government can and cannot do, well they were the ones that initated segregation, you remember separate but (un)equal as far the education system goes which it continues today. The places that really need help for these changes to occur their budgets are being cut without a second thought and than you have those same clowns go "see how ignorant they are"

When you ask the right questions, and seek truth, only then will you understand and find the real answer. And it isn't "well he is poor because he wants to be and it's his own fault." But most people don't have the capacity or inclination to seek truth..it's just easier to blame people, ridicule, and make dumb/uninformed statements.

Nothing Bill Cosby is saying is inherently wrong, but he is only 1/4 right...now what is that 3/4 that is missing in all this? Hmm...

In the 1940's and the 1950's the Black communities were styl'n they dressed to the T, out in public. Remember Sammy Davis Jr.?

Look at all the people behind MLK in all those speaches. Nice pressed shirts, ties and slacks. For the time, they had more respect dressed in their best.

I guarantee a black man in a tie, dress shirt and slacks, will get more respect today, that Mr. DMC.
Especially getting pulled over by Johnny Laws.

Exactly...so what happen to black people from the 60's going forward? Where did they do wrong? Liberal policies of the 60's and 70's is what went wrong if you ask me.

Let me make one thing clear that Mr Cosby omitted in his speech over ten years ago. Blacks came up with their own language since their original ones were stolen from them which is why some people in California thought that it would have been a good idea to give slang a name which was ebonics. Mind you I'm not making any excuses for those who are determine to speak that way as a primary language, but it is as common as someone whose native tongue is other than english to speak it around their own people for whatever reason.

An example would be many of you who work in a professional atmosphere where clear pronounication is important but whenever you go home your natural accent/language is spoken out of comfort. Mr Cosby may not have lived in an area where a person out of necessity has to live in a dual society, one hood and one professional in order to survive and or be accepted.

Nice speech, but look there is a blackman in the highest position in the land and look how he has been treated. True you can get pretty much anywhere that you desire (if they let you) but thet is no guarantee that you will stay there or that you would be appreciated once you get there.

You obviously have not seen, Fat Albert. It was a cartoon about Bill Cosbys life in the hood, when growing up.
