Some states have implemented laws against hiring illegal immigrants. Some farmers started looking to prison labor to fill the gap. Companies are looking for ways to not have to pay people much.
It's called trying to stay competitive.

It's not competitive to warehouse such a large portion of our people and simply keep bringing in cheaper and cheaper labor.

We're losing our competitive edge with all this globalism and immigration. That's why our national debt is soaring.

There needs to be an effort made to get jobs to Americans or it's going to be a disaster for the young Americans who aren't finding jobs. Use of prison labor is one way but it would be better to get them into jobs before they end up in prison.

For too many inner city male youth Americans, there are only 3 possible futures -- death, prison, or a job.
Which is why I say it really doesn't matter who was president. It's all about money. There is a saying, "money talks, crap walks". It's about the money. Even if illegal immigration was ended, companies are going to find ways to make labor cheaper. Want an example? Go to Wal-Mart. Nearly everything in Wal-Mart is made in China. Why? Because it's cheaper.

Think about this. Why do some people want to use prison labor? You don't have to pay much to prisoners. You don't have to pay a living wage.

And there is another option of many inner cities youths, the military.

In the end, it hurts those who need work. What do you expect an American worker to do? Live off 50 cents an hour?

Yes, there is the military --- but they still need jobs when they get out. They can't come home to no jobs but yes, the military can be an immediate answer --- but now they're cutting the military by quite a lot.

Sorry, but we're screwed for years to come. Stuff can be made ALL OVER the world for a fraction of what it cost to make here. People want stuff at the lowest price possible so it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out which route companies need to go to stay alive.

It's not just the export of so many millions of jobs, it's also the import of very many millions from third world nations who will work for extremely low pay but require free health care and food stamps and much more because they cannot afford the high cost of living here. We're also importing poverty on a very grand scale.

Illegals will work for pitiful pay but they don't mind having free government provided housing, Medicaid, and food stamps in addition. There is no way they can afford their more than normal sized families on minimum wage and even less.

In the end, it's either utilize cheap labor or simply shutdown the business because you cannot compete against your global competitors.

It sucks but welcome to reality.

Or bring back the only sensible tax -- the import tax.

Make foreign made products contribute to the cost of our huge government and debt -- tax imports.

We're basically screwed and there is no if, ands or buts about it. In the meantime, we seem to be content on making matters worse as the years go by as you just mentioned.
