Minimum wage should be increased. Millions of Americans should not be made to suffer just because one CEO of fast food chain can buy a new mansion or a yacht.

These people are often just fired and replaced but in areas like fast food and retail, I'm sorry but nobody is worth $9 an hour, at least when just starting out. It's cost prohibitive to start a business when min wage is that high. And it's harder for businesses to make a profit without raising prices, which makes sales go down, which could lead to the business going downhill and laying off workers. See how that cycle works?

So the selfish-sounding "less profit" reason is way more complex than you make it out to be. It's not about "supporting the rich," it's about helping the economy grow and encouraging free market capitalism. Nobody will work for a wage they are not happy with. If I can't get any employees to work for the wage I offer, I'll have to raise the wage. We own a restaurant and employ people. If min wage goes up to $9/hr, you can rest assured our prices WILL go up and we WILL lose business and possibly go bankrupt. We are NOT rich by any means, we are solidly middle class and just trying to make our way in the world. It's not necessary to demonize the rich when raising the min wage affects many, many more people than just them.

Thats all scare tactics and negative propaganda by top 1 % rich people that we will all be bankrupt if minimum wages rise by 1 dollar. It doesnt work that way. Policies are made for benefit of country - not for select few. if 30 million Americans get benefit by salary raise, it will be good for the country and some less rich mansions and yachts for CEOs. Remember, there was a time when there were cries against abolishing SLAVERY. Plantations and economy will collapse if slavery were to be abolished-thats what South said. Slavery went yet we became world's strongest nation.

Did you even read any of the thread? Do you have any understanding of economics, or even how to run a business?

Did you not read what I wrote? The rich are not the only people who are saying this. Everyone is affected when the min wage increases. We would lose our business probably if that happened, and I went so far as to say we are middle class...not rich. What are you not understanding?

Right, policies are supposed to be meant to help the overall fiscal state of the country...not just a few people who work for min wage.

what do we expect from leaders / politicians? Run a business or run a country? I understand economics but in favor of whom-some CEO or 30 million Americans? Make everyone suffer so that one CEO can buy a new mansion or a yacht- Is that the economics or business you are talking about?

Minimum wage should not be increased. Thousands of American small business owners should not be made to suffer just because liberals want to demonize a few greedy CEOs.

Of course it doesn't, and many of us have been TRYING to tell you all that.

Minimum wage earners would be no better off if minimum wage were increased. Why? Wages increase -> prices increase. The poor still have the same struggle. Where's the benefit except to those who owe debt and can now pay it back with devalued dollars? Meanwhile asset value increases and debts are more easily paid off. Guess who that really benefits?

Independent Family owned food joints will be able to compete with Fast Food Joints in a better way if minimum wages are raised. Right now Fast food joints are promoting poverty in this country with minimum wages.

Why do you keep saying "one CEO" and "30 million Americans"? That tells me you don't have a clue.

Less than 4 million Americans make minimum wage or less, which includes servers, bartenders, anybody who gets a tip wage as opposed to regular hourly wage.

Characteristics of Minimum Wage Workers: 2011

A country should be run like a business, so to answer your question, both.
