No it wasn't. Where are their deeds that established ownership of property at the time? Where was their established government located?
On the other hand, we can look at this from a liberal point of view. If anything the pilgrims were bringing multiculturalism and diversity to a sickeningly homogeneous society and the "native Americans" were a bunch of Nazis, racists and haters for opposing them. Didn't they know "diversity is strength"? Tell me how your perception of Pilgrims are now?
Typical apologist. Arrogantly proclaiming that because a native population didn't do things the way you do, it's not stealing.
All Native American tribes had their own laws, culture, religion, and languages. They lived in different areas of the country, and some moved around inside those areas. We stole it all.
Where did you get your history on Native Americans, watching Peter Pan???
I find it extremely amusing to see so many of you with your undies in a wad because someone has labeled you a descendant of an illegal alien. I guess someone somewhere back up the pipe was an anchor baby, LOL.
Maybe we wouldn't be so stressed out all the time if we observed more of their customs and practices. We'd also have a much more beautiful country.
It's never to late to reverse course.
Don't fall into the condescending trap of romanticizing native Americans.
They were not homogenous, did not have the same spiritual philosophies, etc.
The myth of the "nobel savage" is every bit as damaging and disingenuous as depicting natives as "true savages."
Lest we forget that especially in Latin America, "natives" created some of the most advanced, wasteful and brutal civilizations in history flourished, warred, died out, committed genocide, slavery, human sacrifice, innovated, made art and historic monuments.... they are humans.
Respect the land. Only kill what you eat. Spirituality.
Just a few.
This is a joke. Come to Oregon, Washington or Alaska and watch them practice what you 'think' they preach. Indians aren't bound by state fish/game laws and the feds don't want to lose votes....so the Indians like to drive around and shoot every animal they can, only taking the heads they can sell or enter in 'big rack' contests. They don't take the meat, they get paid too much from their casinos to bother. They net the rivers to near extinction and don't keep the fish, just take the roe from them to sell to the Japanese.
Most of the Indians today are also immigrants from Central Asia that moved in around 10,000 years ago...taking the land from immigrants that arrived from Europe from about 20,000 years ago.
The pilgrims were illegal aliens and the Boston Tea Party was an act of terrorism.
Yes we are certainly an "enlightened" society these days..aren't we ?
Why do we hate ourselves and our history so much these days ?
And then..why do we view history within today's context ?

Ironically, this "introspection" is a DIRECT RESULT and outgrowth of the same western forces of enlightenment that were going on at the same time western civilization was having its colonialist period.
The idea that colonialism, conquering, warring was bad....human rights, kinda new ideas in geopolitical thought and history. That slavery is bad? A new idea. That you shouldn't pillage and plunder other people? New idea, in historical terms.
Sure, people have fought against conquerors and slavers since the beginning of time... but there was never really an idea that nations shouldn't war or slave and exploit.
Right. You walked out of a required class? Really?
And some loon in that class yelled at you for being a white male? Told you about "atoning for your sins?"
LOL...
You DO realize that your story is simply too perfect, right?
It really is extraordinary that right-wingers always have these experiences. I have lived in four different states, I am not a stay at home type of person, I work for a huge corporation that encourages diversity and never have I seen anything like this. I go to a grocery store at least every other day for something and never have I seen the food stamp user who buys lobsters while wearing name brand clothes and driving a luxury vehicle. Anyway, something probably did happen but this is his version of the story. I wouldn't be surprised if he made some bigoted remark or whined about how White males are now the victim which led to an argument that was disruptive to the class. His version is that he was yelled at simply for being a White male.
My son recently told me that one of his teachers complained about MLK Day being a holiday and called Beyonce ghetto fabulous. When some parent complains, he'll say he was discriminated against for being a White male. The man is teaching physics, how inappropriate I think he needs sensitivity training.
If I say that Europeans stole this land, would I be wrong? I don't think so. It was taken by force. Europeans are not Native Americans, whether the term existed or not "illegal alien" existed or not, they still took the land, while robbing, raping and killing the natives. It is what it is.
I don't see how anyone can deny the fact that we invaded, killed the **** out of the natives, and stole their land.
But what's still funny to me is that were we back then equivalent to today's illegals, our best bet would be to kill and/or deport them all. Doesn't seem like the best message to send during "cultural sensitivity training".
