Never heard of this woman before but she makes some really valid points. We need to educate our kids as well as our communities how offensive some words can be.

It's generational. Kids will grow out of this term and the next generation will find a new offensive term to crack on each other. Just as I did.

"That's So Gay" is not nearly as offensive as using the word "gay" to identify homosexuals or the homosexual populations hijacking of the word.

Being gay used to mean, happy, carefree and a sense of joy. Somewhere, that word became the domain of homosexuals and that is far more offensive. Now you can't use the word without fear of offending homosexuals. Excuse me but too bad. There was no right to take that word and make it something it was not intended to be and by so doing, remove it from everyday speech just because some segment of the population needed a way to identify themselves.

By hijacking the word "gay" something was taken from others. Isn't it strange that it becomes a one way street so easily?

I could care less about the sexuality of anyone else but when you decide to simple take from others and then complain that it happens to you, all bets are off. First set an example, then ask others to follow it.

A little research tells me that today when young people say something is "so gay" they usually mean it is lame and not necessarily homosexual. I found this interesting.

Great, now I have to come up with a new term to describe a Liza Minelli impersonator waving a pride flag while antiquing!

And that was more insulting than "that's so gay" could ever be used in the sense of something being stupid. What would you like gay guys like me to do, then? See what I did there? I'm not going to stop "hijacking" a word that's been used in that sense since before I was born.

I think "fabulous" would be a good word for that!

But seriously, has anyone seen that commercial with the two girls working at a grocery store? They say something is "so gay," and this customer replies with "it was totally Meg and Amber" (or whatever their names are). It's simple, but does get the point across.

Some stuff really is gay and so what? Who would go to an Erasure concert or the Pet Shop Boys and not say that it was gay? Have you seen the Kylie Minogue 3d concert on Comcast on-demand? It's really gay, even though I'm pretty sure that she is straight.

I'm sure the PC police have a list of terms that they would want you to use.

Other things, like Taco Bell or going to the beach are not gay, so I wouldn't understand why someone would refer to them like that.

Of course Kylie concerts are gay; we're talking about it being synonymous with stupid. It's not offensive, but idiotic to conflate the two.

^ This. My generation used to think "sick" was a term when one wasn't feeling very well but now it looks like a positive. Impressive. Forgot who puts out the ad but it was for faster speed (computers) and the one kid goes, "That's sick".
