Yesterday I said...
Any stories or claims of widespread carnage because of these cuts is total hogwash - OR - the government chose to make an unnecessary cut of a federal program to get the desired reaction to make news headlines. I wouldn't put it past them to do that.
I think this qualifies.

FAA says 173 air traffic control towers will close on April 7

The federal government will close 173 air traffic control towers at small- and medium-size airports on April 7 because of forced spending cuts, the Federal Aviation Administration told tower operators Tuesday. It will close another 16 towers on September 30, the end of the fiscal year.

...
"We're extremely discouraged and disappointed that the FAA is taking this action," Dickerson said. "The rest of the FAA's budget is getting a 5% haircut; the contract towers are getting a 75% cut, because the FAA is cutting 189 of the 251 contract towers."

"It's hard for us to see the fairness in the budget cuts. It seems the contract tower program is taking a high, disproportionate cut. We have serious concerns about the safety, efficiency and loss of jobs in almost 150 communities across the country," he said.

No one dis-likes a cut till it hurts them. Over the next few months there will be other stories like this one. It will be time to decide what people are willing to pay for and how they want to make that payment.

News and leaks about this administration's management of a teeny tiny budget cut proves that it is not competent to spend our money wisely, even if they call it "investing" instead of "spending" in the false hope that yes, we are that stupid.

The cuts are a little over 1% of total spending.

I agree that cuts will CHANGE things. But really - 1%? They can waste that with their eyes closed and nobody would know.

Lies, no I dont think so. The cuts will come at a nice slow pace as yearly budgets start running low and are unable to move cash from one line to another.
