I'm well aware of his history, I even said he was over the top. According to him, the entire city is overrun by wildings at all hours of the day. At the same time, there is a large group here that likes to downplay crime. Every time these flash mobs, or other crimes, are brought up, they are quick to tell us they are isolated incidents.

i find this to be an odd question, as people have attacked strangers in streets since streets have been around.

These incidents have been happening for about the last two or three years. Flash mobs where young people either fight themselves, ransack retail stores, or attack other people who are out and about. The problem is that at first these incidents were dismissed as bored kids since school was out. Now it is becoming a year round thing, with incidents taking place during the weekend when school is in session. You add into the whole social media thing and public transportation, and it only makes forming these mobs easier. Lots of teens may not want to do anything criminal, but there is this desire among teens to be where things are happening, and these large groups are where all the "cool kids" are, hence so many teens show up. Not all of them want to assault people, but some will. It will eventually spiral out-of-control, somewhere. Chicago has already had the Ford City Mall incident, and now this incident. Three hours SE, Indianapolis has had two similar incidents, both involving mobs of a similar make-up, and both involving guns. Only one of the Indy incidents had some random person assaulted, the other incident sounded mostly gang related. Folks just need to practice situational awareness. If you see a group of trouble makers, get out of the area. It is no different than going to some college campus where a group of drunkards is trashing the area because their team just lost a basketball or football game.

It would be interesting if Rahmbo (Mayor Rahm Emanuel) one day got caught up in the middle of a flash mob in the middle of the tony Gold Coast neighborhood. Wonder how he would force the city to respond....

Luckily, for those that stick to certain thoroughfares like Oak Street, they're probably buffered from this kind of thing. Anywhere near a Red Line stop can get suspect. I'd imagine Chicago Avenue, Grand, and anywhere up & down the well known Michigan Ave or State St can be susceptible to this type of thing. I remember when Lakeview/Lincoln Park areas were getting hit with this type of activity a couple years ago in the news (never saw it firsthand tho).

Possibly because they are, and because they're tired of him pretending they aren't. If you're "well aware of his history," the responses shouldn't surprise you.

Saying something is a slur doesn't make it a slur. You pretending something is offensive and hurtful when it's not doesn't make it so. (See how easy that line of rationalization is?)

Police: 3 adults, 25 teens charged in Mag Mile melee, Red Line attack - Chicago Sun-Times

"But police officials emphasized on Sunday that there were no reported robberies, assaults or property damage as a result of what happened on Michigan Avenue."

Do your own googling next time, please. It took about 1.5 seconds to find what you were asking for.

If that makes you feel better that nothing happened on Mich Ave, you're sticking your head in the sand. The facts are that two people were assaulted elsewhere in the same vicinity by these groups. Who gives a **** where it happened?

It's not about what I "feel." He posted information. You didn't believe it, and asked for a source. I posted a source. The end.
