I don't like it. But it is necessary for roads, schools, snow removal, etc., don't you think? I mean I don't like getting out of bed every morning but I get why I have to, you dig?
I believe in a free society and all the benefits that our taxes pay for.
Like you, there are undoubtedly many government expenditures I disagree with and would, if given the chance, eliminate. Nevertheless, I have the maturity and understanding to know that there are probably many government expenditures that I favor that others would eliminate, and that the nature of our democratic republic includes the fact that not everybody will agree with everything the government does. It is important, however, for everybody to have the opportunity to participate in the decision making process.
I pay taxes quarterly, and do so willingly. Here's why:
I like having sidewalks to walk on, instead of muddy paths.
I like using my public library.
I like having bike paths.
I like access to public transportation.
I like breathing clean air and drinking clean water.
I like buying produce that doesn't contain E. coli.
I like shopping locally, rather than online, knowing some money goes to my State, which needs it badly.
I like knowing that others are doing the same, thus contributing to the community in which we live.

Is that enough likes for you?
Exactly. I don't like paying my heating bill, but I like having heat. Rational people understand that link.
Where do these people think public goods/services will come from if we stop paying for them? Santa?
If you're referring to the latest debate about online sales tax.........
I abhor the spending at all levels of government but it is much less excessive at the local level and that is where the loss is felt .
The majority of online shopping is not for neccessities...ergo is more from disposable funds.
I would much rather see that funding come from sales tax than have local property/school taxes be raised, especially when local merchants that are losing the business are also the ones having to partially support their unfairly benefitting direct competition.....or to have to have local sales taxes raised that will be collected but even widen the divide....also making people who shop locally benefit the online seller.
