I am constantly confused why people make statements of opinion WITHOUT doing ANY research.
Many act that just because they haven't heard of it, it doesn't exist.

The Heartland Institute is an extremely biased source. Do you have any Teacher Union documents or spokespeople who have openly opposed homeschooling?
I know how many people homeschool. The numbers are insignificant and would not affect the public school system in any measurable way. It's not worth teachers' time to think about it.

A lot of them. Including accusing me of making spelling mistakes when in fact I had none. I double checked. Twice. Yet in your accusation, you made 3 mistakes. It doesn't matter what level of education a person has when you start throwing stones.
Come back to me after you have chemotherapy and see how well you type. I have significant cognitive impairment that is most strongly reflected in my writing ability (i.e. mixing up word order) and also have lost much of the feeling in my fingers which makes typing difficult. I try to proof, but I miss things. But thanks for your judgment - here I was trying to be nice despite my very strong reservations against homeschooling and you exemplify most of my overwhelmingly negative social interactions with homeschoolers. Why feel the need to tear someone down? Bolded a few of your spelling errors. Perhaps you should check before you insult others? If you are referring to my use of "homeschool" as one word then you must not realize that "homeschool", "home-school", and "home school" are all equally correct, though the latter is perhaps the more common way of spelling it.
My parents struggled on two incomes with my breadwinner father in-and-out of work during the dot com bust and subsequent battle with mental illness. There is no way they could have afforded lessons for an hour and a half each day in both Spanish and French, which was what I was able to have access to through my public high school. After Spanish 4, all interaction in our Spanish classes were conducted in that language - so that meant that thanks to block scheduling, I had 3 years of an hour and a half of Spanish practice a day. Our local homeschooling group pooled resources by "hiring" a bilingual parent for a few hours a week. Public school had exceptional language teachers who were trained in the pedagogy of teaching second languages. In the last decade, many more resources have developed for teaching languages that would be helpful to homeschooling families, but nothing can replace a robust immersion environment.
I meant what I said when I referenced to my parents. I'm sure other parents can figure it out if language is something that their family values. Honestly, without one special teacher, I likely would have stopped Spanish after Spanish 3 (instead of Spanish 7) and would never have been interested in French. I also know that not all public schools have as strong of a language program as my high school had.
My apologies on the spelling statement. It is home schooling not homeschooling. 2 words, not 1. An easy slip and I am sure not on purpose or through a lack of education..
My point is you use your personal experience and make a blanket judgement about others.
My first 3 grand kids took ALL AP courses and got an excellent background for college with over a 4.0 GPA, and will not have take some college courses. My 4th is well on her way to follow the other 3.
I also know kids who have been home schooled who live in the same school are my grand kids went to.
All excellent students who have earned scholarships and finished college with 4,0 GPA's.
After reading the constant stories on here about some of the stupid things some teachers, principles and other school administrators have done, I could say many of them "have no business trying" to be teachers.
Let's for a moment imagine that someone new who knew nothing about homeschooling landed on this thread and read through it. Based solely on the misspellings (shudder) and absence of rationality displayed by the folks in here who are defending homeschooling, well, let's just say he would not think homeschooling is anything he/she would want.
