I agree with HappyTexan, although I suspect he was being facetious. Where does the US Constitution give Congress the authority to create a National Weather Service? If Minnesota, or any other State, wants to know what the weather will be, let them create a State Weather Service. The States have the constitutional authority, the federal government does not.
Agreed, but the federal government did create a national weather service, and the states rely on it.
Gee I guess you can lock yourself in your house and never come out.
Without the government funded weather service you won't know what to do.
Fear for the next storm that you'll never know about because the government had to shut it down.
Coming up to hurricane season and that's probably the best time to announce this.
Let everyone know that they won't be warned of impending tornadoes or hurricanes.
Let them know that they are on their own.
Then the outrage will turn to Congress who will "find money somewhere" to continue the funding.

0bama is illustrating what soft tyranny by a large, central government can do to us.
We pay huge taxes to pay for a national weather service, federal highways, federal education, federally controlled welfare programs, and various education grants and give-aways. The government says "See how wonderful big government can be?" But then when you oppose government, they will take away your highway or educational funds, or furlough federal workers, etc...
The goernment is like the mafia asking you to provide protection money, everything is fine and dandy until you do something to upset the mob.
The only reason it exists is because 0bama demanded it be written into the law.
0bama had 18 months after signing the 2011 budget act, to prepare for implementing the sequester, just in case he lacked the leadership skills to avoid it.
He had 18 months, where he should have outlining finding cuts, but he was negligent, and incompetent, and he chose to do nothing. Now he and his admin are cutting wherever it can to cause the most pain to the people, or wherever it can grab the most headlines.
0bama's own GAO came out with a report in 2011, listing hundreds of billions in cuts, and he refuses to implement any of them.

Then the National Weather Service should be abolished, and replaced with individual State Weather Service. Why should someone in Alaska pay for watching for hurricanes in Florida? Conversely, why should someone in Florida pay for watching Alaska's volcanoes? The States are quite capable of doing the job, and probably do it better than the Feds.

Key words "Without spending cuts." This comes down to a massive pissing contest between the left and the right. Obama wants a higher debt ceiling, the republicans want spending cuts, the two sides refuse to agree, and the entire nation suffers the consequences. Big government at its finest.

Obama wants the same the debt ceiling raise that every other president got before him. This sequester does not exist, if the republicans would have raised a clean debt ceiling without asking for a ransom. Why would Obama propose a sequester in the first place, if the debt ceiling would have been raised without attachments to it?
