BOTH WHITES AND BLACKS ARE TO BLAME FOR THE PROBLEMS IN THE CITY OF DETROIT, BUT IT IS THE REPUBLICAN PARTY THAT MOVED ALL THE JOBS OUTSIDE THE COUNTRY. POST MANUFACTURING = REPUBLICAN POLICY. So, as an American, you should be ashamed of yourself to say that you have no pity of what happened to a great American city. Trust me, no European country would have allowed this to happen. AND BY THE WAY TO ALL OF YOU WHO ALWAYS BLAME THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY, LOOK AT CANADA ACROSS THE RIVER FROM DETROIT....CANADA IS A SOCIALIST COUNTRY AND THEY SEEM TO BE DOING MUCH BETTER.
First, you DO know all caps equals shouting? Secondly, you might want to look a little closer across the river, for Canada is not a "socialist country". The current PM is a member of the conservative party.
Of course, any and all ills fall at the feet of the Republican Party, after all, that damn conservative Bill Clinton ratified the NAFTA agreement, which, admittedly, was pushed by that evil George H.W.Bush.
Your insightful analysis of international economics is truly mind-boggling.

To think that people would actually voluntarily move back to that is, to put it kindly, the apogee of wishful thinking.
Why in hell do you think they moved out in the first place? It hasn't changed into Brigadoon since they left, either!
It was pretty crappy in 2000 when I had a summer internship in Troy. Wasn't much of a reason to go there in fact we were told to be careful if we went into the city. I only went every few weeks to get my haircut. I visited the casinos there but I went to the one in Windsor more.

I'm not really thinking that large numbers of people would move to Detroit anytime soon.

Rather, there was a time not too long ago (probably the late 1970s-early 1990s) when Detroit wasn't really much different than a lot of declining high crime cities with large black populations. But what happened? In other places, people tried to turn things around, and usually have been modestly successful. In Detroit, however, there was extreme bashing. The community mindset came way too late (maybe in the past 5-10 years or so.) Now, Detroit has much worse statistics than formerly comparable cities 25-30 years ago. People are trying, but more people are getting tired of the trouble and fleeing.

So yes, I do believe that outsider's attitudes towards Detroit is largely responsible for the condition it's in.

Has nothing to do with that and it only shows ignorance thinking that.

Detroit was built upon industry, specifically the car makers. Industry has since abandoned Detroit.

The #1 problem there is not the race riots or even race in general, the UAW, the auto industry, etc. The #1 problem is that people avoid Detroit like the plague, and therefore there's no way to support the city. If a few hundred thousand people moved back to Detroit, a lot of these problems would disappear. But instead of community building, a lot of people left and never looked back. I do think that this attitude is on the decline, however, which could bode well for the future. Most of the people I know from Detroit are aware of its significant problems, but feel the hatred is way overblown.
I was born in detroit and lived most my life less than 3 miles north of it. I think i know about the white flight and why it happened. Colman young and his ilk are the reason detroit is the way it is. Kwame is another. And please dont make it a black thing because both were theves who just so happen to be black.

Why do you think that outsider's would have a negative attitude towards Detroit? What about Detroit makes it an attractive place to move to?

Detroit is a hell hole because the people that live there make it that way. Detroit's murder rate is on the level of war zone. Half the population is functionally illiterate. Its infrastructure is crumbling. Its city services are a joke. Government corruption is rampant. Huge swaths of the city are burnt out. That is the reality of the city. It's not a false perception.

Americans: take notice, remember if it happened to a great city like Detroit it could happen to your city or mine. It could happen to our entire country.

You mean like the lovely oil spill from Tar Sands in Arkansas?...

Homes evacuated after ExxonMobil oil pipeline spill in Arkansas ...

10,000 barrels of oil destroyed homes.

there are ghettos in every state, so instead of myopia, look at causation.
