Because they think bottles and formula impact a baby's health and they want to restore the love between a mother and her baby.
Big nanny government is alive and well in other countries as well as the US

Venezuela considers banning baby bottle feeding - Telegraph Odalis Monzon, from Venezuela's ruling Socialist party, said the proposal would "prohibit all types of baby bottles" as a way to improve children's health.

"We want to increase the love (between mother and child) because this has been lost as a result of these transnational companies selling formula," Ms Monzon said.

Did they ever consider the fact that some mothers are not capable of natural breastfeeding?

Mother's milk is healthier than formula, and provides immunity against many diseases and conditions that threaten the lives of newborn infants. Venezuela is putting the welfare of its children before the profits of international corporations, and that's a good thing!

This is offensive but am not surprised. There are breastfeeding nutjobs here in the US that have pushed many hospitals to ban formula. It repulses me because not every woman can or wants to breastfeed and it's her choice.

Venezuela should stay away from women's breast and what they do with them and concentrate on actually running their country efficiently without wasteful spending and unfair practices. (Just like every other country should do)

Well I guess you're all fine and dandy with this.
What happens when the government decrees something you don't like ?
What if they banned abortion because it's not fair to the baby's right to a life ?

Do you think Bloomberg is going to sit there in his NYC office and let Venezuela get the lead on mandating "healthy lifestyle" ?

I think breast feeding should be strongly encouraged. I would not go so far as to ban bottle feeding altogether. It would just encourage a black market in formula and bottles.

Could impact adoption as well.

They just might see the return of "wet nurses".
Remember them ?

What? Michael Bloomberg is also Presidente of Venezuela?

I suspect there's a shortage of formula, as with other products, in that heavily managed economy.
