It's not a big mystery. The facts are right out there for everyone who wants to see them.
Why is it that we spend more per capita on healthcare than pretty much anyone else on the planet and still get inferior/mediocre results for it? How can such a status quo be considered "good" by some people?
Why can't we emulate the superior systems and processes that other rich, successful nations have been continuously doing for a long time now?
Americans may be living longer and even exercising a little more, but we really are not much healthier than we were 10 years ago and we are still far behind other rich countries when it comes to our health, researchers said Wednesday.
The biggest survey of U.S. health in 15 years breaks down death, disease and disability county by county – and makes some very unflattering comparisons to other countries. It’s a big, comprehensive dive into what kills us and what makes us sick.
But Americans lost ground compared to people living in other countries in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. “Among 34 OECD countries between 1990 and 2010, the U.S rank for the age-standardized death rate changed from 18th to 27th,” Murray’s team wrote.
“The United States spends the most per capita on healthcare across all countries, lacks universal health coverage, and lags behind other high-income countries for life expectancy and many other health outcome measures. High costs with mediocre population health outcomes at the national level are compounded by marked disparities across communities, socio-economic groups, and race and ethnicity groups.”
Maybe Obamacare is not the answer, but we already know what hasn't worked for a long time: that which has been championed by Republicans and Democrats alike for the past several decades.
Maybe more of us should try studying and learning from other successful nations instead of denigrating them and just repeating the old mantra that USA is always number one. Clearly, in this regard, we are not.
Because it smacks of communism, that's why. They don't care who dies, who goes bankrupt, who goes without or who suffers.
What a great country!
I've heard that communism bull****e 100 times. In reality both China and the former USSR's delivery of healthcare stunk to high heaven. And still does in both countries is my understanding. The comparison to very good delivery of care comes from every free modern country on earth excluding the US. However, if one would stop and think a bit, it becomes quite obvious why China, Russia and the US blows when it pertains to health of their citizens.
No, none of the northern European countries are any where near collapse.
OP: The main reason is because Republicans are stupid people who listen to special interest fear mongering instead of any reasoned or factual comparisons.

because United States indirectly subsidizes the world's healthcare by financing all the medical research?
You mean those "rich" countries that are on the edge of economic collapse?
Those ones, not to mention how the heavily regulate legal/illegal immigration because they cannot afford to support the worlds poor. But if you mention that in America you are a racist.
