This is just one more way our lives as American citizens and civil rights which are supposed to be guaranteed by the constitution are being taken away. I don't blame one single individual or presidency but this obsession with what innocent people are doing is just making me sick to my stomach. I want to stand up and get our rights back that are guaranteed by the constitution.

Charlie.

Post News, License plate cameras track millions of Americans

The spread of cheap, powerful cameras capable of reading license plates has allowed police to build databases on the movements of millions of Americans over months or even years, according to an American Civil Liberties Union report released Wednesday.

The license-plate readers, which authorities typically mount along major roadways or on the backs of cruisers and government vehicles, can identify cars almost instantly and compare them against “hot lists” of vehicles that have been stolen or involved in crimes.

I'm not surprised to see that TX has the most photos with little or no restrictions on when and how the police can use those photos.

Maybe when the citizen patrols are keeping their own database on the politicians things will change.

This falls into the "What the heck are you trying to hide?" category. You aren't doing anything that would warrant you caring so much if some massive database somewhere records where you are at a specific point in time, especially since that database is so large and has so much data added to it in-the-moment that the fact that your license plate passed a specific point at a specific point won't even be reviewed until weeks or months later. Sounds like a whole bunch of crying for crying's sake.

Complainers complain.

A data base so large it is useless, which sums up everything the government does with our money.
Anyway, I think every government owned vehicle should have trackable plates and we people should be left alone.

Statists will continue to offer up half baked excuses.

I am more concerned about unrestricted corporate facial recognition cameras. They have them in malls and can identify you by face. Then, the company knows where you shop and what you buy.

If your car was stolen, or a family member was abducted in a particular car or a major criminal was known to be driving in a particular car, or the perpetrator of a crime was known to be driving a car with a certain license plate number etc. etc.would you be willing to deny the authorities the use of such technologies to solve a criminal situation?

How adorably short sighted.

And unlike the cameras our corrupt bunglers in government install, they are paid for with private money, cant be used against a person in order to steal their money or freedom and can be avoided by simply not patronizing.
