As far as the United States government is concerned, those are one and the same. A person like Snowden that is willing to risk his own personal safety and freedom to tell the truth is the worst type of enemy any authoritarian government can have.
We can all thank President Bush for the new normal where a country like Russia has to ask for guarantees that the US government won't torture a United States citizen to avoid a grant of political asylum. I can remember when it was the US that used to receive those types of assurances from oppressive governments around the globe.
Snowden is a putz and a coward and I think that he should remain in Russia, turn gay and let Putin's new radical anti-gay stance have at 'em. I see that human rights issues mean nada to the hypocrite chicken boy. The idiot stands up for privacy, but not when it applies to human rights. To hell with him!
Obama only protects those who make his opponents look bad.
