She looks like a Keisha to me. Nothing wrong with that name. However, I have to wonder if those "African American roots" are still in the picture? Because, you know, a dad who hangs around is a dad who can do many, many things to stop the bullying of his very own child.
I'd bet my next paycheck that Tyrone is nowhere to be found.
Try again please. Certain names DO hold people back in life; why cripple those people when a good "anglo" name in the US is def better? Mexico: giving even a Mexican white kid there anything but a Spanish 1st name ain't smart.
F#!k a "good Anglo name." That's ridiculous. They shouldn't be teasing her over a perfectly normal name.
And names don't hold people back. It may cause prejudicial behavior and close a door here and there, but it doesn't "hold you back ."
I'm not for crazy and ridiculous names, but Keisha is a pretty normal ass name.
Keisha is the name of a well known Porn Star, who is now in her 40s. I remember her from years ago, she has two websites. So , that might be another reason to change your name ? ( O' she is Jewish I think, maybe not ).
This sort of thing has been going on in different cultures for years. How many White's started as Weiss's? Or Barry's as Barack's? No big deal. My interracial young 'uns got good, god-fearing, white names too. We never thought much about it, just liked the names, I guess. We don't get too worked up over this racial baggage in my family. A couple of the black relatives though have asked why we gave them white names.
Yes, I read it. There is a difference between being given a ridiculous name and an ethnic (or perceived to be ethnic) name.
Those people in Kansas City, MO aren't mocking her for having a non-sensical made up name. They are doing it because she has what they consider to be a BLACK sounding name. That's the difference. They are being racist end of story.
