Denmark has been rated one of the least corrupt countries. Here are some possible reasons for their good anti-corruption rankings.

Quote:
Over the years we have developed a welfare system – the so-called ‘Danish Model’ – which is an important part of the Danish integrity system. Fair working conditions, social security, health arrangements, decent salaries and pension schemes are among the things that contribute to giving the Danes reasonable living conditions. The fact that it is possible to live on one’s salary, that people are protected if they get sick and likewise if they are fired makes it easier to refrain from corruption...

A 44% tax (health, municipal, social contribution) plus a VAT of 25%.
The have put a cap of 51% though on the total of all taxes paid.

Geeze..these people are working just to keep the government in business.

Imagine..3/4 of your paycheck goes to the government (max taxes + VAT).

I don't know all the details of Denmark's system but I'm assuming they have a welfare system that's well monitored and prioritized. I mean many countries have welfare but still have corruption problems.

Denmark- Just over 5.6 million people.
United States- Just over 317 million people.

What works for Denmark doesn't mean it will work for a country that is much larger and more diverse.

They have some of the strictest immigration rules on the books.
So strict others have called them "human rights issues".

Also apparently its famous for:
Having the least corrupt government
Providing free college to all residents
Hot women
Free speech
Courage (see actions during WW2)
Pastries
A pretty good immigration policy that we should copy in my mind
Promoting social mobility
A incredible safety net system
Low barriers to trade along with being a excellent place to do business
Very very large unions (the majority belong to a union)
Massive government taxation and spending on services with that money.
Many government jobs represent a lifetime job with incredible retirement benefits
To give you an idea-unemployment pays 90% of what employment does.

I could go on.

I love Denmark on a personal level but I couldn't live there. The tax wedge is just too high. But to the point of the thread. I don't see how corruption and welfare are tied. Correlation doesn't indicate causation. I could say that Dane's are naturally a less corrupt people, Nordic people are naturally less corrupt, Agnostics are naturally less corrupt...again correlating instances do not indicate causation.
