Does it matter if Hawking is right? If black holes are how he describes, it could lead to a better understanding of quantum mechanics and general relativity. "We might learn some new physics, which may have real implications about the non-trivial structure of the universe," says Braunstein. But he also points out that we might not.
Lmao....these are SCIENTISTS talking!!
Why are countries still being coerced to dump BILLIONS of dollars into this junk that is absolutely going nowhere?
So, black holes were proven with empirical evidence. But now they actually aren't and if they ARE in fact what we believe them to be...we might learn something from them, or not.

I am laughing with you.
They never had any empirical evidence.
By the way these are theoretical physicists not scientists. They're like philosophers/theologians shaping reality with their mythamatics.
I only read that they might work different than they thought, not that they don't exist after all or something to that extent if that's what you're thinking/implying.
Doesn't mean that I don't agree with you that countries should not pay for this research.

You misrepresented the article in your original post by calling into question whether black holes exist or not. They do, nobody is saying they don't. That was an article about theoretical physicists debating the nature of black holes. Clearly it was way over your head.

No, it's not way over my head. The man is not going to come out and tear down his whole body of work in one comment LOL. what would he have to live for after?
Theoretical physicists are a totally polarized group...I'd say fragmented is a better word. And they know very well that they have dragged the context of language kicking and screaming to what is virtually unlimited funding.
And they have absolutely nothing to show for it aside from concepts.
More anti-intellectualism from the right.
Black holes have been linked to teleportation.
Well, let's just quash that from the get-go! Who needs it?
This is totally a suggestion I'm going to throw out there.
Don't ever mock a religious zealot again.
