He is a member of some group called "Docs against Glocks" or something like that. he thinks doctors should query their patients about firearms ownership according to the article.
Surgeon Generals should have decades of experience, and be apolitical. Murthy completed his residency in 2006, and is a 30 something activist. He is the least experienced and the most unqualified person for the highest job a doctor can hold.
This is par for the Obama course. Murtha must have put together a nice bundle for Obama, and now he's getting paid back.
Does the Surgeon General's opinion on anything not medical based really have any affect on anything. Its like if the Postmaster General was anti-abortion. Sure they could talk about it on their own time, but can't really do anything that would make anything legallly binding occur.
The questions should be about his qualifications with respect to his medical career/knowledge etc. You know, the stuff that he would be getting the job to do. If he's unqualified then boom, on to the next one, otherwise I could care less about his gun beliefs.

Team O presented a CONVICTED COP KILLER'S lawyer to the selection committee for appointment, no big shock here.
And since it is one of the foundational principles of our great nation and its equally great legal system that everyone deserves a vigorous defense (yes, even cop killers) it is interesting to see how this is considered a "bad" thing by the right wing.
Certainly, with attitudes like that you'd imagine they would be more comfortable in Venezuela, or North Korea.
