IMO, it is completely up to the people getting married.
My wife has my last name.
My oldest son took his new wife's name (he wanted to be named the same as his truck, I guess...)
I have known people who are very happy with hyphenated last names.
It is THEIR paperwork, and THEIR marriage, I see no reason why I should have anything to say about it.
It just isn't any of my business!

I really appreciate women that take the last name of the man, and keep the tradition.
Taking the husband's surname is a common custom in most English speaking nations and those influenced by British customs. It is by no means a world-wide practice. In fact, changing surnames is illegal in many nations.

I did not take my husband's name and we have been married 34 years. I am not his possession. He uses my last name when making reservations/ordering pizza because he does not have to spell it.

What surname other people use is none of my business.
