So let's recap.

Your personal observation is more credible than the actual $$$ amounts?

Got it.

He would be paying the very same FICA amount.

What about the people who cannot afford subsidized monthly premiums never mind the annual out of pocket.
Does the burger flipper not already pay payroll taxes...?

News flash.. if he actually made an acceptable wage, he wouldn't need to be on SNAP

I'm done with you.

Typical deflection.

Yes that burger flipper pays 6%.
He will pay 16% for single payer on his salary ?

Yeah..when numbers start getting thrown around the lofty progressives with their bright ideas go running to the hills.

The government is required to do so by constitutional law. Your irrational fear of government isn't what is on the books.

Well just look to Vermont for that answer.
8-10% increase to their FICA plus new consumer taxes is going to be needed.
The people don't want that though.

So how do you give people what they want when they are not willing to pay for it ?

As a single person you can only claim 1 on your 1040 but you can claim 1-2-3-4-etc. on your W-4.

Um, the exercise at hand is to AVOID a tax refund, in order to avoid paying the ACA tax penalty.

The method you describe gets you a larger tax refund - not what we're looking for here.

Not to mention that underwithholding of taxes could bring you an income tax penalty when you file your return.

You can also go the other way as well.
Claim 0 and plus have additional money withheld.

The W-4 is what you use to juggle your taxes.

No the method I described gets you a smaller or no refund since the more deductions you claim the less they take out of your paycheck.

The W-4 affects your paycheck. The more deductions you claim on your W-4 the less they take out in taxes per paycheck.

Well, people aren't rational.

My coworker and his wife make together about $100,000, but he still pays the $9,000 / year PPO plan, rather than the cheaper HDHP (he is too anti-Obamacare to consider anything like it). Guess that is folks? A 9% tax for health care in the form of private health insurance.

The payroll tax will be significantly less than 10%, as Medicare is only 1.45% and covers our sickest demographic. It would probably fall somewhere between 4-8% total to cover everyone.
