I was white collar. Software engineer. I didn't know what salary my peers were making.
When they got awards we knew because the award amounts were posted.
But salaries weren't.
Just wondering, is that a legal requirement in Canada?
Can father's as well as mother's take a full year of paid time off without worrying about losing their job?
Could a couple conceivable skip work and pickup a paycheck for five years in a row just by having a child every year?
It's a legal requirement. Mothers or fathers can take a paid year off.
I don't think you can just keep pumping out kids. You have to put in a certain amount of hours worked before you're eligible.
Our government gives off paid time for bonding, subsidized, affordable daycare for when you do return to work, and the promise of your job waiting for you when you get back.
It encourages people who want to have families instead of penalizing them or forcing them onto welfare.

That's obviously very nice for the workers.
I would assume this probably wouldn't be a requirement for small employer's, where it could represent quit a large burden. But I guess the economies of scale make it easier for medium and large employers to handle the turnover and training.

Thanks for your response.
The employer only pays a small portion of the leave, so it's not a large burden. The major part of the leave is paid for by Unemployment Insurance, which we all pay into. It works for us.
People don't mind paying into a kitty so everyone benefits.
Oh, and since you're such an ecomic powerhouse....any ETA on when you'll pay back the money you owe us?
