1. The tax revenue argument was used to dupe people into voting for the legalization
2. There are expenses relates to the legalization, and if those expenses exceed the revenues, then the tax payers are actually in the hole over this thing
That's not why they should have voted for legalization.
I find it difficult to believe that the expense of legalization exceeded whater the expense is for enforcing its criminalization.
How so? An ounce is 50-60 highs (25-30 joints, each shared by 2 people). Even at $200 an oz, that comes out to $4 a buzz. A nice high from quality weed can last a couple of hours.
So in effect and potency, it's cheaper than liquor. And imo more pleasant. Also there's no hangover.
I'm not a CO resident so can only legally buy 1/8 oz. DH & I paid $35, tax included, for an 8th of Golden Goat. We used a vaporizer, it lasted us a week and we had to throw away some away when we left. Way cheaper than drinking.

works out to $280 an ounce. I posted the links before. You can get up to a lb from a single plant. $4480. Even half that is $2300 out of a single plant. Pot isn't any more difficult to grow than corn, tobacco , etc.
It seems they collected less that third of what they thought. Why am I not surprised?
Voters legalized retail marijuana (pot for everyone, not just medical patients) in 2012. And they were told the state wouldpull in $33.5 million from two new taxes in the first six months of 2014. It turns out, the projections were way off.
You mean they only got $2.287 billion instead if $2.3 billion?
To have that problem especially since before legization they got nothing but a massive bill for the stupid war on drugs.
