GOP Plans Bill to Separate Obama Immigration Plan From Homeland Security Funding - WSJ

WASHINGTON—Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) said Monday he planned to bring up a bill targeting President Barack Obama ’s executive action on immigration, separating it from the Homeland Security Department funding Republicans have used as leverage in the immigration fight.

As the article describes, it's not clear how this move will be received, but I think this is smart for the Republicans. They would have been blamed. This poll puts blame on Republicans 53%, Obama 30%, both 13%.

Debate Obama on immigration directly. The GOP has an opportunity, here. Playing games with DHS is foolish.

How do Republicans get blamed? The House passed ful funding and thus did its job. Senate Democrats are the ones holding up the bill's progress now.

Oh, I see, people don't understand the Constitution.

The republicans get blamed because the media propaganda machine is in the tank for obama. It is astounding how the dems can say it is the republican's fault and have that stick.

The repubs funded the DHS, the dems and prez will kill the DHS funding because they want to legalize millions of illegal aliens, so that is a double whammy to weaken US security with a porous border and islamic terrorists.

It's Barney Franks fault.

The {D}s are looking for cover by insisting that Obama's immigration funding stay in the DHS bill, That way they can tell their ignorant constituency that they were not for Obamas immigration EO and then say the {R} are putting the country at risk by being obstructionist. I can't stand McConnell but this is a good move to get the {D}s on record on Obama's EO instead of looking for cover like cowards.

Republicans will blink and let the DHS keep running and the Illegal Aliens get their amnesty and the Democrats will win the political game again.

I agree, they are two separate issues and should be funded as individual acts. Pass the bill/law to fund DHS, as a clean bill. Then debate funding amnesty for criminal aliens as a separate bill, on it's own merits. Of course, I expect the Democrat obstructionists in the Senate to do anything they can to stop that. Bunch of whiners if they don't get their way every time.

Can the "nuclear option" be used on bills other than judicial appointments? Get it in front of Obozo and let him shut down DHS if it comes to that. We'll see if he cares about the safety and security of this country, or if he throws a tantrum and stamps his feet again.
