yeah, those religious nuts have no regard for human life. Thank not-God we had humanistic atheist states like....

Soviet Union, Stalin's regime (1924-53): 20,000,000 dead

People's Republic of China, Mao Zedong's regime (1949-1975): 40,000,000 dead

Khmer Rouge (1975 to 1979): 8,000,000 dead

That had complete and total respect for the dignity of human life.

Thats still less than the folks killed in the name of religion. In addition just look at the death and destruction in holy books (bible, koran, the hindu geeta, etc)

A) Name the wars of religion.

Before you do so remember there was always a dominant economic factor at play as well. The Crusades were about controlling very lucrative trade routes, Islam expanded into Africa to acquire slaves for its trans-Saharan slave trade, etc.

The closest I can find to a "true" war of religion which was the Albigensian Crusade which still had numerous secular political root causes that makes it suspect as a religious war. Valuable land was also at stake there too as if often the case in these matters.

B) It's the Bhagavad Gita, not the "hindu geeta".

C) While i have no desire to live under a theocracy of any flavor, a state with some religious underpinnings will generally have superior human rights than any of the atheistic mass grave states.

Feel free to hop on a plane to Pyongyang if you don't believe me.

Can you find sources where Hitler anti semite intentions to impose Christian superiority over the Jews? Not all Nazis believed in God, many of them were pagan and really wanted Germany to return to its pagan roots.

The Nazis created their own bible and all references to Jews were abolished and Hitler instead of Jesus was the messiah.

Church run schools were greatly reduced in Nazi Gerrmany, and Children were strongly encouraged to join the Hilter youth instead of Church run youth programs.

Its a massively long list where religion was involved in wars....its always about "our flock vs their flock"...in addition to those that I have already mentioned:

countless india vs pakistan (hindu vs muslims) wars,
The French war of religion (Catholics vs protestants),
The thirty year war (catholics vs protestants),
The Iran-Iraq war (sunni vs shia muslim),
The northern ireland war,
etc

Religion if done right and kept private can be a stabilizing force in personal life. But all too often its used to manipulate people and instill a "us vs them" mentality (just see the City-Data politics boards of muslims vs christians, etc). The most hateful and angry folks are usually the extremely religious people.

Golda Meier and Defense Minister Dayan were facing a disaster when through back channels they told Nixon and Kissinger they were preparing IDF planes to use nuclear weapons to halt the further entry of Syrian Forces into Northern Israel and to prevent the Egyptian forces from taking the Mitla pass and El Arish and opening the way for Egyptian forces to take the battle into the Negev and the coastal plain to Gaza Jaffa and Tel Aviv.. The Israelis had been caught off guard when Syria and Egypt had attacked on the eve before Yom Kippur and mobilization which takes Israel about 48-72 hours had been marked by chaos and confusion. Israel more than any other nation counts on its reservists who make up the majority of Israeli Forces during a conflict. Syria had breached Israeli positions on the Golan Heights. The Syrians were astounded that they had done this well and stopped to bring up re-enforcements fearing an Israeli trick. If the Syrians had not stopped they had only a few Israeli infantry units to stop their armored advance into Israel and could have reached the sea. Israel got an unpleasant surprise from the Soviet SA-7 man portable SAM which now protected Syrian armor from air attack not to mention the Soviet SA-6s that provided an umbrella for the Syrians that had been moved on to the Golan Heights. The Egyptians has breached and rolled up the Bar Lev Line and its defenders and had the 1st and 2nd Armies across the Suez Canal . Again the SAM line along the West Bank of the Suez Canal Egypt had gotten from the Soviets was thwarting Israel attempts to halt Egyptian forces by air attack as they began to move into the Sinai and along the Mediterranean Coast line.

Considering that several of Israel's neighbors have proudly proclaimed that they'd "push the Jews into the sea" and even explicitly stated that they would start "a real Holocaust" should they ever gain a military advantage over Israel; I think Israel is well within its right to develop nuclear weapons.

People tend to forget that there is a real life or death struggle in that part of the world and act like this is a game.

"OMG Israel is like so hypocritical. LOL! Like I'd say give ISIS some nukes to even things out and then there'd be peace. LOL"

Yet, it is often these people who feel the constant need to opine on the nature of the Middle East even though their rearch ranges from a skimming of a Guardian article.

So did this "declassified document" state this was a private conversation amongst Israeli leadership or a blatant threat?
