NORTH HARRIS COUNTY -- Deputies say a father shot and killed a suspect after he tried to force his way into the family's garage.
The incident in the 800 block of Sun Prairie Drive started when the homeowner caught the man smashing his car windows, according to Harris County deputies. When the victim asked the man to stop, the man came after him and tries to enter his garage. The victim tried to close his garage door, but the suspect hit it and the door went back up.
"The homeowner went and got his gun," said Sgt. Felipe Rivera of the Harris County Sheriff's Office. "When [the suspect] kept coming at him in an aggressive manner, he discharged his gun at him."
A 22-year-old Detroit man is dead after he failed to stop attempting to break in an Ohio home with metal bars on the windows. He was subsequently shot and killed by the female homeowner.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Police say a man is dead after he tried to break into a home and the homeowner shot him.
William Evans IV 23, is the man who died in this shooting, on South Hampton Road on the northeast side. The homeowner allegedly called 911 to report she shot and killed Evans. Police are questioning her.
I know I'm bringing up television silliness, but nevertheless, I was watching Fear The Walking Dead last night when this topic came to mind.
One character was teaching another one's son how to use a shotgun following a Zombie attack on the father. The father comes in and has a fit while saying, "I don't believe in guns. Guns are never the answer." right after a gun was used to stop a Zombie that was about to kill him. It made me laugh when I remembered some postings that essentially said they wouldn't want a gun even when an intruder was in their home.
Its no myth. If you have a gun. your given enough time. Your attacked. . the gun can offer a measure of protection. That isn't the myth
Yet your cherry picking isn't why people don't think guns are a good idea
and your straw man fallacy about guns "never protecting" is a bit out there too
The reality is in a 24x7 news cycle and internet we both can flood this forum daily with stories like "Man protects family" " Toddler shoots dad/mom".
Yet if you look at widespread gun statistics you will find
-Criminals shoot each other with guns, not normally homeowners
-Home owners shoot their friend and families with guns, not normally criminals (suicides, spouse violence, accidents).
so if you wanted to protect your family, you would . . not own a gun. Since the chance of you being attacked is far lower than one of your family doing something stupid.
And - if you secure your weapon in a good and justifiable way, you couldn't stop a zombie attack let alone a determined intruder.

Nope. Gun ownership makes one more likely to shoot oneself or friend/family If one is t a criminal. It also provides a means of protection. Gun ownership isn't without flaws in terms of safety to oneself and loved ones.

Wrong. Like any other piece of technology, you and others in the household learn to use the item properly and it will never hurt you.
I keep mine within reach, so if you step into my house without permission, it's body bag time.
