The cops are supposed to be present at schools to monitor violence and crime. Disobeying a teacher is NOT A CRIME.

The teacher said she was disruptive, which in SC schools is a crime punishable by arrest.

I wonder if this girl is regarded as a heroine at that school.
It would be best for everyone if she went to another school.

Stop trying to polarize the issue, no one is saying this girl shouldn't have been disciplined and many don't have a problem with her being physically removed from the classroom. It's the last part, the flinging her when she's already on the ground that's excessive. The officer looked like he was bowling for a strike.

If he pulled her out of the chair and carried her out of class cuffed, fine. I didn't even mind the takedown to the ground, but the last part was excessive.

I literally have no idea why that's so hard for people to understand.
I was describing this last night to a friend who was unaware of the situation. I said he tossed her like a bowling ball.

Agree, he could have pulled her out of the chair.

And the reason he was fired was due to the throwing.

WATCH LIVE: SC sheriff's office releases report on cop-student video confrontation

Dan Fields has been terminated as of twenty minutes ago.

Sheriff talking live at the link.
I guess that's the default easy way out for incidents like this these days. Just fire the cop, wait for the lawsuit and hope this doesn't blow up any bigger. Completely forget whatever the student did leading up to the confrontation, just blame it all on the cop.

I don't disagree at all that cops in general need to show more restraint and work harder at resolving a situation peacefully with force being the absolute last option. BUT by the same token, why can't blacks raise their kids to be better, civilized, more peaceful human beings so that they don't ever come close to being in those kinds of situations in the first place?

As I said yesterday this cop would be fired before the week was over. He will never find a job in law enforcement again. Now the lawsuit will be filed and this little princess will collect a few hundred grand because of her bad behavior. Hopefully the rules in schools are changed and the police will have nothing to do with a child that does not listen. Yes violent behavior a cop should be involved. Anything else is up to the teachers and parents. Bottom line is don't touch a kid!!!!

What I hear the other student say was, she had her computer opened doing the class project. So why wasn't that sufficient for a second chance at continuing on with the lesson?

Are we that inflexible that an apology won't suffice?

Why if true, didn't the teacher give this child another chance?

Why call the administrator, when the child told him/her the same. Was it all about not complying with an instruction? To take a stand that you do as I say?

Please sometimes we need a little compassion, to go a long way.

If true that this child lost the two women in her life, mom and grandma, maybe just maybe she is feeling abandoned?

A little heart goes a long way. She didn't kill anyone.
Here is what one of the students who took a video said.

The officer in this is a cool dude, he is not Racist!!!. Girl was asked her to put the phone away, but told teacher no and Administrator was called and asked her to come to his office. She told him no, he then called the resource officer. When he got there he asked her nicely to get up. Over and over he did nothing wrong. They asked her to get up but she wanted to show off. To some it looks bad but she wanted to prove that she was bad."

I'm not saying she is a heroine. Far from it. She was being a brat. Just like millions of kids across Murica. We don't body SLAM brats in school . parents are not even allowed to bodyslam their own kids. That's not the society we live in.

No. I'm thinking detention is the consequence of being disruptive. But the student declined that.

I am not saying the security officer was in the right. Far from it. When she wouldn't get up and go with him, he should have called for assistance. Two adults have escorted her out of the classroom instead of him getting involved in a wrestling match on the floor with her.

I saw no evidence that her "skull was cracked" and no mention of it in the reports, so I am assuming that was an exaggeration.

Why in the world should teachers need to put up with a disruptive student who refused to leave? Isn't academic performance low enough yet for folks?

Well the flip looked bad but I understand why that happened. Her leg was caught in the chair. I agree with you it was because of the throw he got fired.

If this girl ignored a teacher and administrators request to leave the classroom after she refuse to put up her cell phone and ignores the cops request as well to leave, what else could they have possibly done??? No cops is going to beg someone to comply with them, even though this cop went waaaaay overboard and treated her like she was just involved in a high speed chase with her. Once she started ignoring the officer, you knew it wasnt going to end well.

The only last resort I could have seen with that girl, was to bring in the principal to the class room and have them ask her to leave and threaten her with suspension, from that point on, a cop should be a last resort if she ignores a teacher, administrator and the principal.

In the real world if your employee tells you to go home or leave and you refuse, the cops will be called as well. Im glad this cop is fired, but hopefully this teaches this girl a lesson about respecting authority too.
