Likely true but not according to the USSC which threw that out. So no - over-throwing the government is not the motivation behind the second.

Nope, we didn't have rocket launchers and tanks back in the 1780s. The 2A did not mention those so they are excluded.

And yes, the militia bit was a very important part. The US did not have a standing army back then, calling up the militia was all it had in times of need.

Outlaw guns. Remove the 2nd Amendment.
Just get it over with already. Hunters can use slingshots and pocket knives.
We can defend our homes with baseball bats.

If you're anxious to shoot a gun.....join the military. They make sure you gung-ho types learn enough to not shoot yourself in the foot.

The term in the amendments is arms. "arms" is clearly broad enough to include anything up to and including A bombs. Explosives would have been considered "arms" at the time.

If you read the writings of the time it is pretty clear what the founders neant...which was a citizenrly able to overthrow the government.

I believe all the major players know this and are engaged in a wide conspiracy to avoid such an interpretation. And with no one interested in defending the actual intent they get away with it.

And note that it is probably not possible to amend the second in any direction. You need more than a majority to do that and no position will get that sort of support. So a standoff resolved by a conspiracy so the problem of the second does not have to be dealt with.

Notwithstanding the fact the founders had no problem calling up the militia to suppress insurrections against the government.

Whiskey Rebellion? Those were state militias called up by their governors and led by Washington.

The militias were ineffective in the war of 1812 and became pretty much a scandal in the following period.

The thought at the founding was they would control the feds. Did not work out.

Where do I get the idea that he'd answer to "Call to Arms"????

.

The guy that shot up the PP was a registered Democrat and part of the 420 Movement, who happened to be Catholic.

Eh, not quite. Washington had the state gov'ts call up their militia. And in turn became the only president to actually take military command.
