It seems like he makes every attempt to avoid those situations.
No one should be above scrutiny, the President included. But, if we wish to hold one politician accountable we must do the same for all of them, your party or not.

The whole argument at the time was that there apparently were no serious safe guards being put in to prevent illegal immigrants from getting subsidies. Saying that they can't get a subsidy, but not properly checking to see if they are here legally when tossing out freebies will result in ________?
Apparently it will result in 500,000 Illegal Immigrants getting $750,000,000.00 in subsidies.
At least it allowed the administration to puff up its enrollee numbers!
Hey, Obama the pathological liar lied about the circumstances of how his own mother died to score political points on Obamacare. He lied about lowering the premiums as much as he said - he is not that stupid to think that was possible. He lied about keeping your doctor and your plan. Etc...

If Obama claimed it, it was a lie but that isn't what was being discussed. What was being discussed was whether or not the GOP contributed any amendments to it. They didn't get to add anything to it.

The president is correct: The House bill contains a section (Sec. 246) titled "NO FEDERAL PAYMENT FOR UNDOCUMENTED ALIENS," which states: "Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States."
However, conservative critics object to a lack of specific enforcement measures in the bill. They argue that the lack of a specific verification mechanism constitutes a loophole that would allow illegal immigrants to get benefits despite the legal prohibition. Republican Rep. Dean Heller of Nevada proposed an amendment to the bill that would have required the use of the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements program to check the immigration status of anyone applying for federal coverage or affordability credits. SAVE is the program used by Medicaid and similar entitlement programs. That amendment was voted down along party lines by the House Ways and Means Committee.

However, Republicans pointed out that there were no specific enforcement measures nor any verification system and hence illegal immigrants would be getting Obamacare subsidies.
Republicans try to add an amendment to Obamacare to use verification for subsidies to make sure that illegal immigrants don't get subsidies -- and Democrats vote it down.
Democrats then celebrate the inflated numbers of new enrollees for Obamacare - 500,000+ illegal immigrants getting $750,000,000.00!
If Obama was not lying then he is an incompetent idiot, essentially saying: 'I will not allow illegal immigrants to get Obamacare subsidies, but I will refuse to check to see if they are legally here when passing out the freebies, illegal immigrants wouldn't break any of our laws.' Any sane person with a decent IQ would realize that by not checking the legality of those getting freebies is in fact giving subsidies to illegal immigrants.
Why is something from several years ago being brought up now.
