Because there is a massive imbalance of power between a lone ranger (worker) and a well equipped platoon (company). Workers in America have for 40 years now seen a massive destruction of bargaining power, income and benefits. At the end of the day, a weakened middle class and skyrocketing inequality is bad for the economy and the nation as a whole.
And yet American workers still have it better than workers in many other parts of the world.
Aren't you a member of a union?
Do you feel as though you you don't have any bargaining power?

Yeah, except the US is supposed to be a first world country. So the fact that it's better work-wise than say, the Congo or Papua New Guinea doesn't say much.
I would hope most Americans' standards are higher than that.

So should we strive to compare ourselves with China and Bangladesh? We are America and we should have a government that works for all Americans, not just the donor class who fund the campaigns and lobby for no rights for the American worker.
Liberals love big, powerful, intrusive, over reaching government correct? It's no wonder you want it to take care of you instead of taking responsibility for yourself.
Yep.

Why do liberals rate how "great" a country is by how much "free" stuff the government gives away?
Because many U.S. liberals have been brainwashed to think that we should have 'European Values' rather than 'American Values'.

Funny then, how the most popular president in US history was FDR who believed in the "Second bill of rights" and creating a true American social democracy with strong labor rights and a right to education, health care, a good job and security from disability, old-age and sickness. FDR is as American as apple pie, but corporate propaganda will tell us he is a Martian.
No. The government has no business telling businesses how to run their business. Is there any area of human existence that lefties don't think the government should have control over?

So what? If European values embody a healthy work life, family time, and better health and happiness, what's wrong with that? We only have one life and those aren't particularly bad values and don't always have to be mutually exclusive (or full of the classic tribal "us" versus "them" mentality all the time). Examples from countries whose citizens have a good quality of life aren't always a plague to be avoided.
Why is the government banning online gambling, 21 years legal age for alcohol, executing people, banning marijuana, creating a massive prison industrial complex + a military industrial complex and giving huge gifts to the big pharma industries?
Most people who want progress want a reduced government in many areas and an increased role in other areas. The goal of the government should be to serve and represent the American people, everyone, not just the donor class.
The odds of being a *successful* business owner. 99% of businesses fail. Which, although admittedly higher than the chances of becoming a pro golfer, are not great odds when you've got rent to pay and mouths to feed.
I'd guess a lot of it has to do with people starting a business who have no idea how much work it is, how nothing is guaranteed or don't understand how the cost of labor is so important.
You'd think that if businesses were so profitable and how the owners are just taking in money, like so many seem to believe, hardly any would fail.

No, you seem to be missing the point. For most products, you can only pay X for labor. The lower the productivity time will generally relate to a lower amount that can be paid for labor. If this wasn't the case you could pay a factory worker $400k and give him 8 months vacation. Why would that not work?
