So should we strive to compare ourselves with China and Bangladesh? We are America and we should have a government that works for all Americans, not just the donor class who fund the campaigns and lobby for no rights for the American worker.
We should have a government that follows the Constitution, and the founders intent, as closely as possible.
So what? If European values embody a healthy work life, family time, and better health and happiness, what's wrong with that? We only have one life and those aren't particularly bad values and don't always have to be mutually exclusive (or full of the classic tribal "us" versus "them" mentality all the time). Examples from countries whose citizens have a good quality of life aren't always a plague to be avoided.
Keep in mind, that even if countries have 0 mandatory paid holidays, they can have ALOT of mandatory UNPAID holidays. The US of course has neither.
Citation? I never heard of UN-paid holidays.

Why not be like Google which provides 28 days of vacation plus, extremely generous maternity (and paternity) leave, and many other high end benefits.
In your eyes Google must be the worst employer in the planet. You just don't get it. Companies that treat employees well get more productivity out of the workers.
My daughter works for an upstart company where vacation time is up to each employee with no limit. But old guys cannot understand the mindset of the younger generation.
Are you corporate America? Are you making 66 million a year as CEO? If you are one of those guys I see your point.
However, if you are just an employee defending no vacation time and longer work hours I do not get your point.
My view is similar to Pedro's, and the discussion just devolves into PCALMike's view (which IMO is a cop out) re IQ/risk taking/etc., so there isn't really any point to meandering further down that path.
So what exactly is an 'American Value', as per your definition? Because whatever it is, you seem pretty drunk off its Koolaid yourself.
The original intent of the words enshrined in the U.S. Constitution.
