Trumps has upended international trade.

The partnerships we spent decades building are unravelling at shocking speed. The EU China Mexico are all looking to each other to improve relations and accelerate talks.

China has long sought to break the USA hold on many markets, they have been projecting their soft power to build relationships for a number of years.

In Just a few months, Trump's attacks on our trade partners has encouraged them to turn away from the USA and shift their gazes to not only to china, but to each other. From Australia to Zimbabwe we are losing status due to Trump's failure to understand his words go not only to his base but around the globe.

The problem is that Trump has no understanding of international trade. He believes everything is zero sum, and his actions may damage long term relations for many years. Mexico may well end up importing from Brazil and Germany instead of the USA, they are already making deals with china we assumed would be with us.

Trump has been getting his economic advice from Navarro who left his sanity behind with his one good book decades ago.. Peter Navarro's math doesn't add up and his premise is grossly flawed. Trump is wholly ignorant when it comes to both domestic and international trade. Now just 70 odd days in and we are seeing what happens when a rude bully tries schoolyard tactics on the international stage. Small, medium and large businesses will pay a very real price for Trump's desire to talk big and swagger about. Trump is a hollow man, there is nothing behind the soundbites other than his outsized ego. And we are seeing the results faster than almost anyone would have thought.

This should come as no surprise at all. Of course any risks to trade ties to the U.S. will force other countries to look elsewhere. What would you expect to happen?

Now the overall effect to the U.S. with Trump's vision of bringing the economy back to the states at the expense of foreign economic ties is the great unknown.

China is laughing its collective butt off at Trump. China has been using its money to build goodwill ,while we build bombs.

Who will Muslims trust, China or the USA? I get about, and china is viewed well in many nations, it matters not if they are right or wrong, because making a deal with china is currently a vote getter making a deal with trump is a vote loser.

Trump's stomping about insulting one nation after another, publishing trade balance "hit lists" or shat lists is not winning us friends. Insulting Merkel was so dumb one is left wondering if Trump was simply fulfilling his contract with Putin or is actually just that ignorant. They can haul us over the coals, they dominate the EU and can set the tone for decades long deals.

OBOR is real and it greatly increases China's reach and does it without starting a war, without wasting trillions on weapons platforms.

One has only to see the deals China is making around the 7 dash line to see we have pretty much lost. We spend our monies on fleets, the chinese simply invest in the countries to end the dispute... We start wars, the chinese invest in the countries to end the dispute.... Trump stamps his feet , bellows like a fool and our partners are shocked into action.

Trump is destroying the very limited successes we have had in recent years, and instead is going to try to deal with 3rd world corrupt Russia as soon as he thinks he can get away with it.

Nice post.

I'm not surprised. And although it's debatable as to whether it would come under the heading of "international trade," we're losing money on foreign students not coming here, and may lose in tourist money, too.

America, land of the brave and free. If you don't like it, the door is open. Otherwise, get ready to enjoy some independence with your prosperity. You can thank Mr Trump later.

I wonder how many idiots would rather see America fail so they could say they were right all along rather than see America begin to thrive again and admit that they were wrong.
