Even worse, they are celebrating as Trump attempts to nullify the first amendment. Let that soak in for a minute. Americans, celebrating that our press is being excluded in favor of the Russian media. A few years ago we would have called that preposterous. But today we have a despot in the White House who has set out to destroy our free press and there are Americans cheering about it. It's beyond belief.
I used to scoff when people said this could be our last president, but it doesn't feel so far-fetched to me anymore. Especially when the people who could do something about it, namely the Republican party, refuse to act as long as the destruction is working in their favor.
Un-freaking-believable indeed.
I wonder if a majority of Russians were Muslim, if this would be playing out the same way.

I never scoffed at that. The American democratic system is very vulnerable. Once it became possible to influence elections with corporate monies, all bets were off. The biggest vulnerability (which is true for every government) is that the Constitution could not foresee the impact of technology like the Internet.

My wife said that our systems could fail us. I'm going to be eating a lot of humble pie soon on this one. And I guarantee you she will not let me forget it. EVER.

Your wife is not only right, she is being proven so 110%.
I'll share some of the pie with you as while my confidence had been dwindling in the past few elections, my 10 years working in the nation's capital has shown me first hand that the system is not only flawed, but almost by design.
It's all the golden rule: he who has the gold makes the rules.
Democracy and accountability are almost an afterthought.
What irks me is that SO MANY people acknowledge this, but no one seems to be doing anything to fight it, and those that do embarrass themselves and cheapen any actual change they are trying to make.

Some one asked why lately the congress has been so silent, and one said until the people put fire under them, is business as usual. Politics is dirty, and always will be, but the gross abuse of power must be limited. The People are not engaged - many think this is going according to plan .
Russia’s Oval Office Victory Dance--Visit Happened at the Insistence of Putin
The chummy White House visit between Trump and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov was held at the insistence of Russian President Vladimir Putin, a fact which was confirmed by the White House on Wednesday.
For years the Obama Administration refused to grant Lavroy an Oval Office audience, despite the Russians constantly begging for it.
But on Wednesday we saw Lavroy cracking jokes and yukking it up about Comey's firing while standing inside the Oval Office.
"In other words, Lavrov was right where he has always wanted to be Wednesday: mocking the United States while being welcomed in the Oval Office by the president himself."
At least we know what it feels like to live in a banana republic now.
