Because we are a Republic, not a Socialist State. We value Liberty and Freedom. And don't give me, "but Jesus ..." Jesus taught charity, not socialism. Charity is voluntary. Social programs are by force.

I don't know anyone who is against all social programs. Its the left that make such claims. An all in or all against mentality. Many are against wasteful social programs.

Nobody is against social programs. Some of just just believe such programs should be funded voluntarily by willing people, particularly the compassionate liberals.

If taxes go to pay for things like healthcare, postsecondary education, family leave, etc. then that gap is narrowed and I'm okay with that. The reason countries like Norway, Switzerland and Finland can afford these services is because everyone pays taxes. Its only fair IMO.

:sigh:

Many different types of countries have capitalist economies and socialist democratic programs. How many times does this need to be said?

That's all well and good, but in the US, NOT everyone pays into the system. Therefore, we can't afford to fund all the freebie social program goodies:

Why Other Countries Have Generous Social Programs and the US Does Not

Who Actually Pays Taxes in the US, and Who Does Not

Obviously the tax structure would have to change. That's a given.

That's a given? Liberals howl and scream in protest when there's any suggestion of taxing everyone equally.
